brian wilson smile dvd

just watched the new brian wilson dvd "smile" which includes the whole album performed in concert last year in la. bawl im not afraid to admit it but i had tears in my eyes during "surfs up"....the music is so beautiful and melodic and inventive...his band performed some really complex music brilliantly and it just leaves you wondering what would have happened to pop music in 1967 if it had been released .it would certainly have matched if not bettered the impact st.pepper had at that time but at least we finally got to hear his musicial vision completed. worship

'Smile' was apparently 2 thirds to 3 quarters finished when Brian left it in '67. In late 2003, he and original 'Smile' lyricist Van Dyke Parks returned to the songs and completed them. They were then arranged into a new sequence for the 'Smile' tour.

The album is a completely new recording with Brian singing lead vox with backing vox and music by his band (actually the Wonder Mints). No Beach Boys feature, partly as Brian has been estranged from the surviving Boys for some years.

Imo this album more than lives up to its hype and is a beauty! Easily the best 'new' album I heard last year.
