I think at least one musician in the world of funk who would qualify as a genius apart from Sly, James, George, Stevie and Prince would be Bootsy. For one thing he was the link between two of the aforementioned funk icons and was a crucial part in the developement of both of their sounds, his personality and style are unmistakable and, his voice is pure smooth comic awesomeness, and he's an awesome multi-instrumentalist whose one of the undisputed masters of the bass guitar.

I don't consider these females musical geniuses.

Bonnie's a great musician. But genius? That's stretching.

I don't think many of the people mentioned really qualify as geniuses. I think the word "Genius" is overused really. It should denote someone whose abilities are far beyond the levels of most. Many of the people mentioned are above average to be sure, but geniuses, I think not.

To even use the term musical genius and then condition it by limiting it to pop artists is like asking who is the fastest Toyota driver.

lol lol

And still no women??? There has got to be some female musical geniuses somewhere?????

How about... Well all of my ideas have been shot down already. I don't know coz I thought you all would have some ideas. I can't accept that no one considers ANY female, except Joni Mitchell, a musical genius. Now someone think of AT LEAST one more FEMALE genius on which we can ALL agree. cool
