Roísín Murphy release anticipation...

Wow.

I am smitten. I have started several Roísín Murphy threads. For you TOTALLY out of the loop; she is the lead singer of Moloko who has just released a solo album called Ruby Blue, which is already my soundtrack of the summer and the summer has yet to start!

The album got pre-released through a series of three vinyl EP's, one of them containing a song seemingly not to be ending up on the original release. For completists'the single release of If We're In Love also contains a b-side called Ripples.

Anyways, after scoring the first two EP's, I got SO hyper about the song titles on the proposed EP cover that I just could not wait til it arrived! And now it is here!

The song title Ramalama (Bang Bang) to me brought as much anticipation as Sign The Times did to me in 87...

Well, it happened to me a few times after, but THIS time the anticipation lived up to the actual song. Ramalama (Bang Bang) is so delisciously witty and funky I can't help playing it...

sigh

I am in love....

(L)

you snob!

she's every hetero male indie rocker's sex fantasy.

i got the album already in promotional form a month ago at a record store in Sydney.

It's pretty good for the most part. There are some genius moments on it, particulalrly track 5 (can't remember the name of the song).

I give it *** 1/2 . Not as mmuch staying power as Moloko, but very interesting in an artistic sense and full of spritely funk.

biggrin

If so, I'd probably love it. Or think she's a ripoff. But how's that funky?

Maybe I should have said Homogenic, but musically it's where I had hoped Bjork might have headed, "smart, quirky dance music"

Roísín Murphy's new album is produced by Matthew Herbert, a name recognised by people who collect remixes. He layered Murphy's album somewhat in the same way Björk did with SelmaSongs, using weird noises and sounds to complete Murphy's view of things.

I can understand the line you draw between the two. When asked to decribe her, I told some people she is a combination of Prince and Björk without borrowing from them. Roísín Murphy's sound is somewhat like Moloko's, esp like Things To Make And Do, but way more tempered. The only song that really jumps out to me as a classic Moloko is Ramalama (Bang Bang), but this is not a bad thing.

To me, there is not not ONE song that irks me, which has not happened to me since The Arcade Fire's Funeral. And that didn't make me dance.

Roísín Murphy makes me dance.

dancing jig

And I am going to see her LIVE in just two weeks!

Obsessed you know about, btw. Recognise the fire within me and get infected. I dare ya.

check out 'Bodily Functions' and 'Around The House', Herbert normally works with Dani Siciliano, who is also his wife. From what I've heard, his work with Murphy is very recognizable.

Roisin is a kick-ass performer, see her life.

that's a good way to put it. lol

Moloko truly are awesome, especially live. Their live DVD is one to get...but Statues and I Am Not A Doctor are their best, IMO.

That's probaly they're least accesible album, kind of like Everything but the girls early releases.
STATUES is the only album that sounds like what the general public would excpect a Moloko album to sound like. I remeber people hearing "sing it back" and "The time is now" and went out and purchased "things to make and do" and were very confused to say the least lol
