Are you sure that's not one of the Hanson brothers? Anyway, looks like it was a fun event. Do you remember which songs they performed? I'm hoping The Whispers went farther back into their catalogue.

Thanks for sharing!

My mom went to that concert. I've gone three years in a row, but had to miss this one.

I missed this show, but it looks like it was alot of fun.Last year,Teena Marie and Rick James both performed at this show.It was his last Bay Area appearance before his death.I really wish I had gone sad

A few years ago,The Brothers Johnson performed at one of these shows. It was released on DVD last year. When I watch it,I'm always amazed at how lifeless the crowd is,lol.Maybe it was an extremely hot day or something, but the audience seems kinda dead.I'm sure Louis and George noticed it too.

Sometimes that's the Bay Area for ya. After a couple of hours of baking in the sun, eating, and looking at what everybody is wearing, everybody gets too chill and then only responds to the artists when it's the super radio hits.

I didn't know it was released on DVD. Was it just their performance, or the entire show?

It is just their performance, taped on Memorial Day 2003 in Oakland. The DVD is titled 'Brothers Johnson Strawberry Letter 23' and it also contains a CD of the same show. The brothers are kicking ass and playing all the hits, including a few covers by Sly Stone and Cameo. The problem is,the audience looks tired, lol. When I saw them performing here in San Jose in 2002 (at a free concert in the park sponsored by radio station KISS 98.1),the crowd was going nuts throughout the entire show.It was standing room only!

The Pioneer Amphitheatre at Cal State Hayward if you're talking about this year's Stone Soul Picnic with Teena, The Gap Band, The Whispers, Angie Stone & Ledisi.

These are some really great photos of Teena & The Whispers taken by Tom!

The Whispers were GREAT! Teena arrived early to check out The Whispers' set before she took the stage (headliner) She came out to the side of the stage and took a picture of the crowd & then watched Whispers perform. When they were giving a tribute to all the great singers that passed away, they said that Teena will tell you all about Rick later on....While the band was playing they went over to the side of the stage to talked to her. I heard that she's really good friends with them and she also played a part in the "hook up" of one of her bestfriend /background singer, Tracy with Leavial (The Whispers). Teena left the side of the stage right before they finished their set smile

Teena taking a picture of the crowd w/her camera...How many singers do YOU know that would do that...Teena's not a DIVA smile
