weren't you the one who suggested "outting" people to be dangerous?

In real life. Real life vs. org life, cha know? disbelief

I had a conversation with a certsin individual who uses these boards that took many of the mean "outting" comments to heart and was going into depression over it.

Consider that the people behind the computer screens are real people.

Ok, the treatment for that is to turn the computer off and go outside for a while. Logging off the org is sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself. Unfortunately, it's hard to do the same in real life.

which is just a long video..

madonna's problem is with executing dialogue...

she is at her best when she is acting herself.. (see Susan, Who's Thaat Girl and League)...

and consesus of Dangerous Games? 14% fresh ratings from rottentomatoes...

a sample review:

Dangerous Game
rollingstone magazine

671 12-8-93
Say what trash you will about Madonna's acting (it's more like voguing), she doesn't work with hacks. Body of Evidence, her most recent fiasco, was directed by Uli Edel (Last Exit to Brooklyn). Now the torch passes to Abel Ferrara, a street fighter when it comes to making movies his way (Bad Lieutenant). In Dangerous Game (originally Snake Eyes), Madonna plays Sarah Jennings, a TV bimbo who wants to act in a serious movie, Mother of Mirrors, about the breakup of a hedonistic marriage. The director is the very intense and Ferrara-like Eddie Israel, played to the manner born by the superb Harvey Keitel. Israel is skeptical, but hiring the babe gets his arty film financed. (Dangerous Game is financed in part by Madonna's Maverick productions.)

Art and life imitate each other with a vengeance in this mesmerizing jigsaw, especially when Ferrara's real wife, Nancy, shows up as Israel's wife. She berates Israel for fucking Jennings, who is also fucking leading man Francis Burns (the able James Russo). Israel tries to coax tears and a performance from Jennings by viciously insulting her off camera. Did Ferrara use the same method? No matter. Madonna's take on an emotional crackup comes up snake eyes either way, and Ferrara's Dangerous Game stops being worth the playing.

giggle

but im sure the madge fans here will try their darndest to claim this was an oscar worthy performance and swear that madge had found the cure for cancer in the process of making the film.

(of note....my apologies if i have offended any cancer survivor or family member with my joke.....tis was not my intention.. mr.green )

i've always beleived that Madonna's biggest problem in acting is she nor anyone else can escape the shadow of the public persona of "Madonna." i think herself and everyone else has bought into her mythology that we cannot suspend disbelief when it comes to her being a differnt person in a movie. that's why DS Evita Dick Tracy worked with her carrying the movie.

1) she isn't necessarily better when she's playing herself. she's better when she has a strong director that'll smack her around and work her ass off; one she can't overpower.

2) have you seen Dangerous Game? how about seeing it and forming your own opinion, instead of letting one quoted review form it for you? her performance in that movie is pretty good. the movie itself has a lot of problems, but she turns in a very capable performance. shockingly so, if it's the first thing you'd seen her in after Body Of Evidence. and the film brought in a phenomenal amount of money for the number of screens it was shown on (very few, it was only shown in arthouses). one of the biggest ratios in history up to that point, i believe.

ive seen bits and pieces of it on cable...and it could not hold my interest....and i, personally, ie, me myself i am sticking with my dialog statement....camelle lapagllia did a really good essay on madge' "speeking" voice...how she pronunciates and how it affects her acting....sure, with a good director madge is at best, servicable.....but until she is willing to engross herself into a character and "speaks" as the character she will never reach beyond mediocre.....

and the tomato rating takes into account "all reviews"...thats an average number up there.....14% does not scream out mixed reviews...it screams out "clunker".

Erm. well.

Even the one-two punch of Desperately Seeking Susan/Swept away still isn't nearly as bad as Graffiti Bridge.

I think Prince can act beter than Madonna--but he can't direct for shit.

"all reviews"? really. sure. sometimes it's a large number of them, but it's never all of them.

and as for your comment on her speaking voice, i agree completely. she has a very "stiff" speaking voice on-screen.

Yeah, she sounds like she's reading from cue cards. Same problem Keanu Reeves has.
