Someone help me identify this song.....

hmmm I think it might be from the late 70's. It sounds like an Elton John-style piano rock song, but I'm sure it's not him. It can't be one of those English Punk bands like The Boomtown Rats or The Undertones or Squeeze either. But it is strangely similar. The lyrics and sounds are pretty catchy though. I think they go like:

whistle "We are young, we are free/(er, something something)/in the sea/See the sounds, see the sights, feel allllright...."

Does anybody know that one?

It definitely sounds like you're describing Alright by Supergrass. That's from the mid-nineties, though...

It can't be. The production sounds very 70's to me.

Your description matches the song perfectly, though. Piano based hook, punkish, melodic, and the words you gave are a close match as well.

Here are the full lyrics to the Supergrass song:

We are young, we run green
Keep our teeth nice and clean
See out friends, see the sights
Feel alright!

We wake up, we go out
Smoke a fag, put it out
See out friends, see the sights
Feel alright!

Are we like you?
I can't be sure
After seeing as she turns
We are strange in our worlds
But we are young
We get by
Can't go mad, 'aint got time
Sleep around if we like
But we're all right

Got some cash, bought some wheels
Took it out, 'cross some fields
Lost control, hit a wall
But we're alright

Are we like you?
I can't be sure
On the scene as she turns
We are strange in our worlds

But we are young, we've gone green
We've got teeth nice and clean
See out friends, see the sights
Feel alright!

But we are young, we've gone green
We've got teeth nice and clean
See out friends, see the sights
Feel alright!

Well then, I guess it is that song. But damn for some reason I thought it was an old 70's song. shrug Supergrass is more like Indie/Power Pop to me. And I figured that kinda song couldn't come from a band like them.

Thanks. smile
