BONO or BONEhead Subject: did bono really say this?
After saying that he would much rather be in a band than a solo artist because solo artists are too prone to indulgence: "I think, in some ways, it's easier to realize a vision that's singular and in your own head, but it's harder to keep the vision going without argument. Look at Prince. He's one of my favorite composers of the twentieth century. I really believe in him. But he needs an editor. He needs a row. He needs somebody in the studio to tell him to f*ck off. 'And guess what? There's six great tracks and four of them are pretty average. I'm sorry, sir. Your genius was having a bad day.' Does he have that? No chance."

Yes he said it, and, for the last nine years he's absolutely been right. Of course, it would help matters somewhat if the last two U2 albums hadn't been so damn safe and lame, but hey, I didn't have to buy them ... and I didn't. There are three sides to every story. My side, your side, and the truth. And no one is lying. Memories shared serve each one differently

Because from one musician to another, you don't open your pompous mouth in public to tell others how to make their music. [Edited 6/18/05 17:08pm]

Prince is God's gift to everything musical, and if you dare disagree (or God forbid! Agree with someone else's criticism of him) those that fancy themselves True Funk Soldiers will beat you to death with a spatula. "A Watcher scoffs at gravity!"

Prince has had to be so single minded and plain stubborn with the name change and fighting Warners, what makes Bono think he's going to take advice about his creativity?

U2 has had their moments of trite bullshit, like this new album.

[Edited 6/18/05 17:08pm] I hear you but I also hear half the bitches on this site saying the same thing he said. It ain't tactful but when hasn't Bono spoken his mind about something? And Prince ain't always tactful either, though he's better lately. Fuck it man, I just don't think it's a statement to get bent about. I got real shit to do like decide what I'm having for lunch

That's why he needs to learn to shut the fuck up sometimes. CalhounSq said: And Prince ain't always tactful either, though he's better lately.

I agree. Bono's answer seems cool with me. I agree with him. And voices, its good that bono does speak out, why not? Its interesting. Prince was a prick during his fight with warners, he knew that afterwards at least. He needed tony m to tell him to stop being a fucking but, but he fired him. Wendy and lisa woulda told him to STFU about anything. But he fired them too.

I have no problem with Bono speaking out, but when he goes off on an arrogant tangent about someone else's work, well, what exactly is the point? I don't give a shit what he thinks about Prince's music (or anyone else's music for that matter). [Edited 6/18/05 17:28pm]

Are we public figures? No, but who says public figures always know what to do & how to be? These muthafuckas are as goofy as the rest of us. Maybe it's something he shouldn't have said publicly but damn, he went of the top of his head & said something tacky but true. So what, there's worse things in the world. I think I'd be mad if it was Usher saying it but it's not, it's one of his peers in a sense so I don't really care.

Usually its "om my god, I think hes a genius" and thats it. Boring. Bono is speaking from a fans point of view, one of which I agree with. He is still human u know. Sure he goes overboard alot of the time, but that point was pretty normal and certainly not grandiose (as he often is)

Yes, it was tacky. I'm not actually angry at this, it's not an issue for me. I just think Bono should live by a certain professionalism. Do doctors do press releases every time they think one of their peers fucked up? Now that would be funny, actually. CalhounSq said: I think I'd be mad if it was Usher saying it

Interesting B/c Usher is too wet behind the ears to pass along advice. At least P & Bono have been in the game for years & years. You have to acheive a certain level before you can prop yourself up like that & even then you might not know what you're talking about
