PINK FLOYD - WISH YOU WERE HERE So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell, blue skies from pain. Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail? A smile from a veil? Do you think you can tell? And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts? Hot ashes for trees? Hot air for a cool breeze? Cold comfort for change? And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage? How I wish, how I wish you were here. We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, Running over the same old ground. What have you found? The same old fears. Wish you were here. such an amazing song

Bands at weddings do this song? the last two weddings i've been to they've played this track. at the most recent (a couple of months ago), to be fair the music was excellent, but the vocalist was terrible.

Didn't you say some band at your football BBQ was butchering a Pink Floyd song too? "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Shit joke, I know, but it's Friday, gimme a break

Didn't you say some band at your football BBQ was butchering a Pink Floyd song too? that's true. And yes, it was wish you were here. I mean, the guy couldn't even get that little guitar intro right & hit the wrong note. And his voice wouldn't get close to the high notes, so he just gave up. totally lame. then they went on to obliterate Taxman and We Can Work It Out by the Beatles, as well as play some of their own terrible material.

Yeah, you can't fuck up the guitar intro! No Zeppelin covers though? "I saw a woman with major Hammer pants on the subway a few weeks ago and totally thought of you." - sextonseven

Thankfully, I've never had to endure a butchering, err, performance of Wish you Were Here at a wedding (of course, I don't go to many of 'em...and this news isn't making me want to!) The lyrics are damn good and thought provoking, while the music is atmospheric. I really love that album... Dark Side Of The Moon is a timeless classic like all Pink Floyd Albums...Roger Waters bass playing on Breathe is REALLY good.

Cheers for your comments dude but what do you or anybody else think that Echoes is about? ... maybe about some kind of free thinking paradise. That's what I seem to get from it. I love the way that it builds back up again from that freaky bit in the middle. I enjoy most of their stuff apart from The Wall which i think is a bit painfull to listen to at time and The Final Cut. you might disagree of course as some of my friends do. I liked the Division Bell as it happens and 'high hopes' is a class song. What kind of set do you think they'll play for Live 8?

Great song from one of the greatest bands. Good album, too. This song has ALWAYS reminded me of "Wild Horses" by the Stones. They're VERY similiar. I believe Pink Floyd gives a big nod to the Stones on this one. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
