Toni Braxton's New Album "LIBRA"

From another board:

Toni Braxton's first album for Blackground has been christened "Libra" and will be released in September. The Scott Storch-produced first single, "Please," topped Billboard's Bubbling Under R&B/Hip-Hop Singles chart last week and debuts this week at No. 78 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs tally. A video for the track will be shot with director Chris Robinson.

"Libra" is Braxton's first album of new material since 2002's "More Than a Woman," which has sold more than 433,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. A remix collection, "Un-Break My Heart," was released in April via LaFace/Legacy.

Of late, Braxton has been dabbling in TV acting, having appeared in two episodes of the UPN drama "Kevin Hill."

Toni Braxton Reclaims Limelight With 'Please'
Monday June 6
New Album 'Libra' Due Out on Blackground Records in September

NEW YORK, June 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Grammy-winning superstar Toni Braxton is gearing up to release her new album, Libra, on Blackground Records, in association with Universal Records. The new single "Please," from her upcoming sixth studio album, Libra is already causing a buzz with fans and radio DJ's. The mid-tempo, bass heavy track is growing fast at Urban Mainstream radio. Produced by the much sought after keyboardist/producer Scott Storch (Beyonce, Lil Kim, Snoop Dogg), "Please" is enjoying heavy airplay in New York City (Hot 97), Los Angeles (The Beat), Miami, and Washington, D.C., among other major markets. Braxton is also working with acclaimed hip hop video director Chris Robinson (Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Snoop Dogg) on a sultry music video, scheduled to premiere soon.

The six-time Grammy winner Braxton exploded onto the music scene in 1993 with her multi-platinum, self-titled smash debut album. Toni Braxton won 3- Grammys, netting Toni the "Best New Artist" statue, and selling more than 10 million copies worldwide, marking the beginnings of Braxton's legendary career in R&B and pop. Her follow-up album, 1996's Secrets, sold 12 million copies worldwide, garnered two Grammys, and established the husky-voiced songstress as one of the music world's most hypnotic vocal divas, placing her in the ranks of legendary female vocalists such as Whitney Houston, Chaka Kahn, and Anita Baker.

Three more solo albums followed, with Toni delivering her fifth studio offering, the 2002 More Than A Woman CD. The dramatically charged album was a therapeutic work for the tireless Braxton, balancing provocative themes that foreshadowed the changing landscape of her personal and professional life. Soon after, Toni took a temporary hiatus from the limelight to enjoy motherhood (she has two sons with musician Keri Lewis) and explore creative avenues outside of the recording arena. The versatile performer starred in the Broadway musical hit Aida in 2003, (in 1998 she starred as Belle in Broadway's Beauty And The Beast) but her own brush with a heart ailment (Pericarditis) while she was on stage, led the singer to take a break from most of her entertainment duties. Braxton, now fully recovered, has recently become a spokesperson for the American Heart Association, joining their efforts to educate women about heart disease.

Excited about her return to recording, the charismatic Braxton is simultaneously pursuing acting roles that showcases her diverse talent. Toni recently appeared in a recurring 3-episode role on the hit UPN show, Kevin Hill. Currently, the talented songstress/songwriter/actress is putting the finishing touches to her upcoming Blackground/Universal debut, Libra, as she proceeds to reemerge as the music world's reigning diva. Libra represents a bold, new statement from Braxton that even though she took a break, she is still on top. The proof is in the music, as Toni prepares to catapult to the top of her genre once again.

I like Toni. I wasn't crazy about the hoochie sexpot image she started to take on with her last album. She (unlike some others) has talent and doesn't need to do all that to sell a record.

I didn't know she was back until I saw "Please" video last week. No announcement, just there she is. I hope she is back to more like her first two releases.

This should be the best year of the decade for new music.

"Please" (and, I fear, this entire project) elicits a huge yawn from me. I like her first 2 albums and parts of The Head, but I don't think I'll like this.

I had no idea she said "please" or "breathe". Actually, I can't understand half the words...

PLEASE – TONI BRAXTON

Yeah, uh, yeah, what, what

I know you're watching all over here
Tryna find a way to come into my situation but you should know this
It's all good so be cool.
I'm taking care of home the kids are fine.
I got it locked and he's all mine
So you should know better than to think that you could ever put it down like I can.

Pre-chorus:
If he needs good loving (I got it)
If I need to heat it up (I got fire)
Make sure I’m the best (for him) for (sure)
He's running home to me for it
And he knows whatever he wants (that I'm with it)
And he knows the perfect place (to come get it)
And he knows that every woman's in me.
Fall back and just let me be

Chorus:
I gots to breathe, please,
Back up off of me
I gots to breathe, and just be
Breathe, please
In case you didn’t hear me
I gots to breathe, so let me breathe,
Please

You're in violation,
Let me help you understand,
Before we have a problem,
I would take it there,
When it comes to my man,
Please don’t let me solve ‘em,
Every day is a holiday,
Every day’s our anniversary.
You should think about the time you waste
Cause my last name ain't gonna change

Pre-chorus:
If he needs good loving (I got it)
If I need to heat it up (I got fire)
Make sure I’m the best (for him) for (sure)
He's running home to me for it
And he knows whatever he wants (that I'm with it)
And he knows the perfect place (to come get it)
And he knows that every woman's in me.
Fall back and just let me be

Chorus:
I gots to breathe, please,
Back up off of me
I gots to breathe, and just be
Breathe, please
In case you didn’t hear me
I gots to breathe, so let me breathe,
Please

I remember thinking that "Please" was the most uninspired track I've ever heard but after hearing it on the radio a few times and in the background of an interview she did on Vh1, it kind of grows on you. Maybe, just maybe I'll look int this album. But that photo is terrible! Where are her nips?

She very may well want to but the last album she put out in her videos she was leaning toward that Janet Jackson look that record company's were pushing at the time. I felt that she has the talent to be seen as more that just T&A trying to warble over a hip-hop beat. When she first came on the scene she was sexy without looking like a hoochie.

Why are people so concerned with their pop stars been clean cut? If she wants to show her chest off, why is she hootchie?
