Anxy's (tentative) Lollapalooza Schedule!

Dunno if anyone else is going to Lollapalooza in Chicago next month, but the schedule just came out today of who's playing when, and I just put together my picks...

SATURDAY, JULY 23:

M83 (12:30pm)
Liz Phair (2:30pm)
(if she sucks, I will go over to see VHS or Beta at 2:45pm)
Brian Jonestown Massacre (3:30pm)
Billy Idol (5:30pm)
The Pixies (7:30pm)
Digable Planets or Weezer (8:30pm...dunno which I'll start out at - probably start w/ Digable Planets then mozy our way over to Weezer)

SUNDAY, JULY 24:

Tegan & Sara (3:30pm)
The Arcade Fire (5:30pm)
The Dandy Warhols (7:30pm)

...if anyone has any "must-see" recommendations of acts who are playing that I haven't listed, bring 'em on!

that is pretty shitty, isn't it? though all the dumb jock kids are gonna rush to see weezer moreso than they're gonna head to the pixies' stage...which, really, is just fine by me. just that much more room for me to get closer. thumbs up!

meanwhile, i'm VERY excited to see M83, BJTM and the Dandies.

i think he's still somehow tentatively involved in this, though there hasn't been much of a sense of presence from him in any of the promo/press stuff i've seen.

I heard Perry gave up in 2004 when the entire tour was cancelled. Perhaps he sold the name to someone in Chicago. Weezer has been together longer than the Pixies and have not made a bad record yet. The Pixies are a legend but don't have new stuff out so maybe that is why they are not headliners.

you're right. all the pixies did was influence dumb bands like nirvana and stuff. bowie might have covered pixies songs on his albums, but weezer did a video with the muppets! thumbs up!

I love The Pixies!

I saw the first Lollapalooza with Jane's Addiction! headbang and the 2nd with The Smashing Pumpkins headlining, but the Beastie Boys stole the show!

i saw the year with the smashing pumpkins - you're right, the show was all about the beasties...and george clinton! the breeders and luscious jackson were big faves for me that year, too. oddly, nick cave didn't do too much for me. he's one of my favorites, but he really shouldn't do outdoor shows when the sun's out. disbelief

I went with a group- we were all there for different bands so we stayed till the end.
Chris Robinson of the Black Crows performed on the sidestage- that was cool!

i'm sure if i could go back and see who played on the side stage that year, i'd kick myself for not checking out more bands. i remember we went to some stupid "virtual rock concert" that was in a big tent and you got to go backstage and schmooze with all these weird holographic rock star images...did you have that at your lolla?

Her music's totally gone down the tubes, but she still puts on quite a good show.

I would love to make it to this, although I'm not sure it's realistic for me right now. sad

Nice schedule. I'd throw Drive by Truckers in the mix (provided their show didn't conflict with Pixies), but that's just me. Not sure they rise to the level of "must see."

I have no idea what day or time they're playing, but the Drive-By Truckers are playing at this thing apparently, and, if your schedule allows it, I'd highly recommend giving them a try. They play a raw, punkish style of southern rock that I suspect would be very potent live.

Of course, if they're playing for indifferent teenagers waiting for The Killers or whoever to come on, they could die a death up there. Who knows?
