new Backstreet Boys album So I went out and bought the Boys' new release, "Never Gone" today. On the day of it's release! Yes, I'm just that cool. 
There's 12 tracks altogether. Predictably, only one of these actually has one of the Boys' names in the songwriting credits. (the title track) But who cares? They're a boyband, they don't have to write their own music. (And seeing as they never claimed to, I don't see why people bitch about this, but I digress.) However, several tracks do have the Boys on production and Kevin's rocking the piano on the title track. That said, overall I'm pretty fucking impressed with the album. It's a more grownup sound than previous albums, both in style and lyrics. Which is good, because now that three of them are in their thirties and even the youngest Boy is 25, they're at the point where singing about walking a girl home from school would not only be silly, it would be just a touch creepy. They touch on babies being born, soldiers over in the Middle East, the world being a generally fucked up and strange place, and some girl who apparently likes to shoplift and fuck in elevators for the security cameras. Of note to Prince fans -two tracks, "Crawling Back to You" and "Lose it All", feature none other than the fabulous Tommy Barbarella doing string arrangements and keyboards. For what it's worth, NeoSoulScribe, I also bought today Joni's, "Blue (which I already own on vinyl, but it's a touch awkward to carry a record player on the bus) Beck's "Odelay", and a new copy of Joplin in Concert.
