What happened exactly?

Billy had just enough of the Zep vibe to make you do a double-take when you initially heard him.

Like Cee, my favorite Squier tune was Emotion In Motion (probably the funk factor) followed by Everybody Wants You.

The fall came after the Rock Me Tonight video.
All his hard rock fans felt betrayed by his prancing around in the video.
Not really out of that period's style book of hard rock poses and stances.

My first album ever bought, "Don't Say Know" and I still have it.

I like Billy overall but later in his career he lost me.

Loved the video for "Tied Up" but I guess that's the hetero man in me lol

My older brother used to play the "Don't Say No" album all the time. I like Billy too.

I remember in Summer '84 the "Rock me Tonite" video came out. It was so gay! He was wearing these really feminine clothes and rolling around in satin sheets. Not to mention the corny dance moves.

I'm gay, but I think Billy was way too gay in that video! LOL!

Pat Benatar should have told him that "rockers" don't (and shouldn't)dance!!!!!
I'm still embarassed when I watch the "Love is a Battlefield" clip.

I think this led to his demise.

I always hoped that VH-1 would have done a "Behind The Music" special on him. I'm sure his story would be quite interesting. He jammed with Jimi Hendrix and went out with one of Jim Morrison's girlfriends (Pamela I think) and his old band Piper opened for KISS in the 70's. He was huge in the 80's until he did that "Rock Me Tonight" video. Then that killed his career. It would be cool to hear his whole take on all that.

why in the world would that video kill his career?? it was a kick ass video and a GREAT song
Check it out ...Shiny Toy Guns R gonna blowup VERY soon and bring melody back to music..you heard it here 1st! http://www.myspacecomment...theone.mp3

The song might have been great (but as someone mentioned earlier) the prancing, the "Olivia Newton John" style clothes, and dancing turned off a lot of his male fans. Billy Squier wasn't metal, but he had a hard rock image. He even admitted it in a interview that he was told by the director to make the video like that. He said he had no control over it because the label wanted the video and he was going to do the best he could with it. He then said his later videos would be more "gritter" and he tried to go back to the "live band on stage" thing, but by then it was too late.

nod Well, you know what in truthfullness and honesty the whole Milli Vanilli situation was fucked up b/c people are doing the same thing now and getting paid. Actually, its quite sad to think that one of the guys killed himself over nothing. I actually heard a CD with thier real voices and it sounded pretty good.
