The first time i listened to this song,i thought it was zepplins Robert Plant.Back in the day brothers were breakn' to the breaks in this cut. Those breaks have been sampled by a few rappers. I used to play the Don't Say No album over and over and over... until one day I got Prince's 1999 album. Billy Squier had a great sound. I still lvoe that album. | |

I always hoped that VH-1 would have done a "Behind The Music" special on him. I'm sure his story would be quite interesting. He jammed with Jimi Hendrix and went out with one of Jim Morrison's girlfriends (Pamela I think) and his old band Piper opened for KISS in the 70's. He was huge in the 80's until he did that "Rock Me Tonight" video. Then that killed his career. It would be cool to hear his whole take on all that. | |

I never knew there was so much love for Billy on the org! I think my first introduction to Billy was when he opened in concert in Mpls for Queen, a show that I saw when I was about twelve. I was immediately hooked. Then MTV was born and he was on a lot. He was my favorite for a few years as a young teen. I saw him again in Mpls headlining with the band Ratt as opener.
Practically wore out my Don't Say No and Emotions in Motion LP However, I'm not sure what "Big Beat" is  And I must have dropped out of fandom before the Rock Me Tonight video, because that doesn't ring a bell either | |

I love "on our own" from the little known, but classic 80's "metropolis" soundtrack. Do his other songs sound like this (very 80's track)

He has a good voice and pretty good songs but the arrangements/instrumentation are weak. There's just not enough meat to them, when it seems like they could really rock. He was very sexy on stage though.

What happened exactly? Billy had just enough of the Zep vibe to make you do a double-take when you initially heard him. Like Cee, my favorite Squier tune was Emotion In Motion (probably the funk factor) followed by Everybody Wants You. The fall came after the Rock Me Tonight video. All his hard rock fans felt betrayed by his prancing around in the video. Not really out of that period's style book of hard rock poses and stances. tA  Tribal Disorder

Hey, I actually do remember seeing this, of course, and loving it. They say he pranced around like a schoolgirl, but me being a schoolgirl I don't think it bothered me much. Seems a little silly that that alone could ruin someone's career. Not a bad song though and he still looks sexy. | |
