There are so many others I would go with:

Miles Davis -- Kind of Blue
John Coltrane -- A Love Supreme
Stevie Wonder -- Talking Book
Prince -- Dirty Mind, 1999, Purple Rain, SOTT and Lovesexy
Rufus feat. Chaka Khan -- Ask Rufus
Nirvana -- Nevermind
Steely Dan -- Aja
Art Blakey -- Moanin'
Sade -- Promise
The Police -- Outlandos D'Amour
Digable Planets -- Blowout Comb
Peter Gabriel -- Passion: Soundtrack for The Last Temptation of Christ
Me'Shell Ndegeocello -- Comfort Woman
Beck -- Guero
Good night, sweet Prince | 7 June 1958 - 21 April 2016

Props will be withheld until the showing and proving has commenced. -- Aaron McGruder

I took it to mean the selection that starts the album.

Since I just listened to this yesterday, the one that comes to mind at this very moment is Welcome to the Jungle from G n R's Appetite for Destruction. That echoing guitar intro is killer and a perfect setup for what the album has in store!

Many thanks . . .

I always judge an album intro by 2 basic criteria: a) whether it draws you into the "action" right away, and b) whether it sets the table for the rest of the album. Which is why (for the most part) I hate pretentious "sound check" or "skit" intros to albums, even good ones. Just get to the fricking music.

That's when skits were new. De La had basically popularized them. Now they go on too long, especially with the gangster fetish fantasy skits (negotiating a drug deal, shooting, getting shot, beating up someone, driving in a car, etc.). They're also junk on many music albums (Jill Scott's latest joint: no one needed to hear that, we waited 4 years for an album, get to it!).

When I think of album intro's, I think of something like "Don't worry, I won't hurt u, blah, blah, blah." Not the first song on the album. Here's a few:

Curtis Mayfield - Curtis
Destroyer - KISS
The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstien - Parliament
SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."
nammie "What BGZ says I believe. I have the biggest crush on him."
