The video for Trapped in the closet is awful. How many times do we have to see a woman of colour who seems to have it all sleeping around on her man? How many times do we have to see a black man packing a gun and willing to use it? The video is extremely derogatory and doesn't do a thing for the image of black people or music in general. R. Kelly has a very good voice, but he's an asshole.

R.kelly is sooooo overrated. as of lately all his releases sound the same, he's gotten really pathetic now

It's not that he's overrated...I think that people have a knee-jerk reaction when it comes to that cat...The problem with Kelly is he does very little with the exceptional talent he has. I've been a music journalist in the game for about 10 years and I remember going to a R. Kelly meet and greet during the first TP release. The guy was sitting at a piano playing jazz standards and Sam Cooke classics and singing his heart out...The reason why you rarely see Kelly live up to his full potential consistently is because he's giving the fans what they want instead of challenging them. He does just enough off-beat, left field shit (As silly as the "The Closet" is, it's not the prototypical R&B song of today, given the fact that it doesn't even have a chorus) to keep things at least interesting...The thing with Kelly is that he's like Larry Holmes. A great fighter whose career is tarnished because of the fact that there was no one in the division to fight. For the 15 years that Kelly has been out there making music, who has been his R&B competition? D'Angelo is the only one who could take on dude, but D takes off more time between albums than Michael Jackson...Competition keeps you honest and on your toes. If you are ruling a certain genre, you have no one to answer to....And that's what's heppening with Kelly...

Ever since the underage girl sextape thing, R. Kelly's been a work-a-holic

Jay-Z/R Kelly - Best Of Both Words
Loveland (unreleased)
Chocolate Factory
Happy People/U Saved Me (double album)
BirdMan/R. Kelly - Best Of Both Worlds (unfinished and unreleased)
Jay-Z/R. Kelly - Best Of Both Words 2
TP3 Reloaded

Y'all can say what y'all want, but I like his music....but he's guilty as hell though. I saw the videotape, he aint gonna get off....unless the jury is full of registered sex offenders on his payroll. lol

I am so ready for this album because it's been 5 years since R. has put out yet another sequel of his classic 12 Play installment. I was looking at this album's tracklisting and it sounds like it's going to be an excellent album, even though we do have some R. Kelly haters out there. Anybody thinking about buying this?
[Edited 6/11/05 20:28pm]

well, U got your answers...U no doggone well, people on this site hate R.Kelly -
Even if he never was arrested 4 having sex with a 15 year old girl - they would still hate him on this site.

U go to other music sites and they love him. Anyway, out of today's crop of artist (people who can sing, produce, write, play inmstuments) he is probably one of the top three in the business - not counting Prince, Stevie, Babyface, etc ...just counting the artist representing today's youth - R.kelly (unfortunately) is their Stevie Wonder.

And yes, I will be buying this one 4 sure - his music is better than most of the r&b shit on the radio these days. And yes, his shit is starting to sound the same - that same ol - bump n grind/cheating drama that he has done in the past...I guess it's a formula that has proven to be successful. So if it ain't broke..

I really love Chocalate Factory now, but when he released it back in 2003, he lost me. I think he wanted to be considered a legend and he wanted this album to be a reconfirmation of his roots by recalling old school R&B; now that he has 10 #1 singles and multiplatinum albums. I really still listen to TP-2.com more than this, because I'm more familiar with the production and concept more with TP-2.

Another R Kelly album?!. How much music has he recorded lately, doesn't seem long since 'Happy People/U Saved Me' was released.

That set was released late August, so it's been less than a year (months wise). And when they hell was that "Best Of Both Worlds 2" released? What a waste of time that was....after a week, they got pissed off with each other!

I too was disappointed at the BOBW 2 project. I never got a chance to hear the first one and I thought the second one was going to be exciting. What did I get? A junky R&B and hip-hop record; and little did I know that the album was full of outtakes from the first BOBW album.

I heard the first one (which seems to be the one R. Kelly album that really got hurt by his sex scandal more than any other) sounded very generic and like throwaways from either artist. The R&B/hip hop station played a lot of those tracks and I would agree.
