Mash-up Links

Post links to mash-ups here. As many as possible. Or list them, at least. Thanks.

I'll be the first:

This is so bizarre, it's great. thumbs up!

I'm still trying to decide if it's an interesting concept or just kind of dumb.

Radiohead vs Marvin Gaye- "Sexual High" is another one that's really good, imo. I can't find a link to it, but I have it one my hard drive.

[Snip - luv4u]

there are no links though, only a list of them. I'm just downloading some of them them from Emule. I can't wait to see what the Specials vs. TLC sounds like. Morcheeba vs. Led Zeppelin too. I just saw where they have Human Behavior vs. Mary J Blige's "Be Happy" hmmm wonder what that'll sound like....of course not nearly as good as the original. smile

I didn't do it, so none taken! Some guy in Holland called Pheugoo did it. I think it's a great mash-up and very inspired - mash-ups work best when the tracks used are worlds apart. You can't get more disparate than Tony Orlando and Beyonce...
Also check out [Snip - luv4u]
- there's a superb Stevie Wonder/Clash boot called "Uptight Casbah".
A friend of mine in Boston does some great ones too; he even used a track of mine as the basis for a Pete Rock mash-up. It's called "Lay Down For A Sexual Love Thang" and is up on his site [Snip - luv4u]
, where there are loads of other mash-ups. Check out "The Beastles" ones; they should still be up there.

I'm not really a Beyonce or "Crazy in Love" fan, so that probably had a lot to do with why I hated it. That Stevie/Clash mash-up...sounds interesting. I'll check them out. thumbs up!

Yeah, he makes some really good ones. "Ray Of Gob" was so good, it was cleared by both Madonna and John Lydon and released officially!

"Ray Of Gob" wasn't released officially. The Sex Pistols (in particular, Steve Jones) loved it and were fine for it to be released. However, Kabbalah Kate blocked the release. The person who did this mash-up and his manager went ahead anyway and pressed up a few thousand white label pressings which could be easily found in any large record shop in the UK.

they're not on any of the artists official albums (nobody is gaining monetarily from mashups), i can't really see how artists are losing out in any way personally.

Somebody else might think entirely differently though (citing intellectual property and all that ish).shrug

Here's another article that says Madonna did indeed like it, but Maverick didn't want it released so I'm not sure what to believe: http://www.gohomeproducti...hicred.jpg

There is some mashup with Salt N Pepa's "Push It" that is really famous that I've never heard.

I never saw a copy of "the best bootlegs in the world... ever".

That's too bad. It's definitely worth finding. Soulwax did the mash-up of "Push It" with Iggy Pop's "No Fun" which is available on that disc.

A friend of mine is represented by Go Home's manager, and that's the story the way I heard it. Let's also not forget that Maverick is a label that Madonna co-founded (along with two others), owning what was the majority share (apparently) of 60% between the three founders; the other 40% was Warners'. I think she just might have had some influence in getting this thing released if she wanted to, no?
If you go to [Bootleg link Snip no no no! - luv4u]
, there's all manner of boots up there. Well worth checking out...

The real story must lie somewhere in the middle. I mean it's over a year later and the 12" is still being sold online. Perhaps the big boys were okay with it being an extremely small release as it is, but not anything bigger.

I'd say any 12" pressings of this knocking around are re-pressings by enterprising people. The original pressing came out 2 years ago.
I don't know how things are in the States, but in the UK it's extremely common to see vinyl bootlegs being sold in not only the specialist dance/hip-hop shops, but also stores such as HMV (probably the largest chain of music retail in the UK). They're not sold under the counter either.
The whole mash-up does seem to be dying down over here. There was a plethora of legeal mash-ups about 2 years ago where the original tracks were re-created and then "fused" together by a producer. I recall one which took Modjo's "Lady" and Brandy/Monica's "The Boy Is Mine".

Vinyl is practically nonexistent in the major music chains in the U.S. Virgin (NYC) still has a small section, but Tower doesn't even carry new 12" singles anymore. Bootlegs are relegated to indie dance stores only. The online sale of "Ray Of Gob" that I was referring to is this one which I think is the label that pressed the original 12": http://www.halfinchrecord...t_shop.htm

I would never see a vinyl bootleg at a Canadian HMV! eek Specialist dance/hip-hop store, for sure.

thumbs up! Hey, I love this! Now that reaches some potential, with some thought and effort put into it, with a lot of finesse, not just mushy. Zeppelin gone reggae, works for me!!!!!
