i loved it when she went up to accept her award. she had a scowl on her face like she was gonna kick someone's ass, and when she had to climb over a bunch of balloons to get to the podium (moby and blue man group had just done some bullshit), she gestured at the balloons like "what the hell is THIS crap?" lol she had a really bad attitude and i loved it! bow

I spoke to her about a year ago.

She called a friend of hers and I was at her home.

They grew up together.

I took the phone from her and said a few words like "Hello, I'm not a fan but I sure as hell dig that you're my friend's friend...that sort of thing."

She had a tough life from what I know.

She's tiny tiny.

If you're open to something new, give this album a try:

Rodney Crowell's 2001 release, The Houston Kid. He's been around for a very long time (he wrote the Oak Ridge Boys' tune, Elvira). He straightened his life out after many years of hard living. He had a messy divorce from Rosanne Cash, a troubled, abusive marriage that he admits was doomed due in part to his abusive behavior.

He duets with Johnny Cash on this album in a remake of I Walked the Line. For me, the amazing thing about this album is that he discusses openly two issues that country music fears to even admit exist: homosexuality and HIV. It's a deeply personal album, and really, really moving. I wish more new country was like this.

wow, interesting...

Indeed. The inspiration for a couple of the songs stemmed from the twin sons of his parents' longtime friends. The two led divergent lives - one stayed in Texas and the other lived on the streets of LA as a hustler and eventually died from HIV. One song, I Wish It Would Rain is written from the perspective of one brother, and another, Wandering Boy from the other brother.

I could go on and on, but I'll stop. It was a sadly overlooked album that got plenty of praise that did not turn into great sales.

I love Rodney Crowell. He's a tremendous talent, and this album was a huge comeback for him. Fate's Right Hand from 2003 was a fantastic album as well - a little rockier, more aggressive and even more personal than The Houston Kid.

I think Crowell had a run of tremendous records from Ain't Livin' Long Like This (78) through Keys to the Highway (one of my favourite records) in 87. As a singer-songwriter he didn't have a peer in those days. He definitely went into a bit of a nose-dive after that, and didn't really recover until the houston kid.

He's been widely covered by other artists - mostly country artists, of course, but he's shown up in some pretty hip places. This Mortal Coil cover Til I Can Gain Control Again on their Blood lp.

I've always thought she was hot - she and Tanya Tucker would probably be handfuls in relationships, though.

I'm willing to try, though biggrin
