Aaliyah's new set....Amerian release date? Aaliyah, in my opinion, was alaways a superstar from America and for the most part, for America. Then again, with poppy R&B numbers that include the soundtrack smashes "Are You That Somebody?" and "Try Again", along with possibly very safe pop ballads like "Journey To the Past" (which I don't think charted here) she must have had a whole of of European fans. It seems like her last proper album, "Aaliyah", was rereleased every which way but loose after her death. And now it seems as if "Ulitmate Aaliyah", a 2-CD set with a DVD ("The Aaliyah Story") is a UK (or maybe Japan...) release only. Or is it just really expensive $45? It's not a bad collection....actually, it is. Who ever heard of a second disc that for an "Ultimate" collection that feels like padding? I don't recognize most of the songs, it has two very minor hits, and a tribute song? At the very least, the very least fill the disc up. Nine songs while the first disc has 16, and all of those songs are classics? So is this the offical release and there won't be a more affordable one coming soon?

The problem I had with this Release was the DVD which was recorded from a Video it looked like, it was a combo of the Behind the Music special and Documentary footage from an unauthorized Dvd collection. I too was very let down by this, I picked up the import because I have everything on her so i figured why not, plus i wanted the DVD but wow its terrible. In America however the problem lies with her management and record companies, this collection can only come out overseas since her contract over there does not apply. In the states Aaliyah was on 3 different labels, basically a different one for each CD and her management is in constant battles with themselves and record companies basically fighting over money and if they do a compilation of this size who gets the biggest cut. The Ultimate Aaliyah probably wont make it here, most likely there will be some kind of unreleased album coming, supposedly she had quite a few outtakes from all the Cds that havent made it out yet "We went where our music was appreciated, and that was everywhere but the USA, we knew we had fans, but there is only so much of the world you can play at once" Magne F

Sounds like a really screwed up situation. No wonder "I Care For U" felt so uneven.
