Love his guy biting first album "bonn into the 90's".

Love most of his second, third was average. "r." was good, but the midtempo's were kinda dull.

R kelly wrote for hi-five too biggrin

I liked the work R Kelly did with Public Announcement quite a bit. Here and there, I've liked a few of his solo songs, but nothing really in the past ten years. I'll take She's Got That Vibe, Honey Love and Slow Dance over any of his solo tunes.

Yeah, r kelly was good at uptempos, then he just stopped as rnb moved on.

Shit like "shes loving me" and "keep it street" are head and shoulders more fun then his recent snooze fests. Sign of the times rnb wise, as r kelly was top of his game in the mid 90's, yet I preferred his teddy riley biting stuff.

I like "honey bunnies" too. Even "If I could turn back the hands of time" is great, which is a nice, sam cooke style ballad.

i think as an artist, his stuff is samey - and as a personality, he's somewhere between insulting and downright offensive. i give him credit for being as prolific as he seems to be, though.

I forgot who told me, but an orger ages ago on here said how at th eend of the album version of "shes got that vibe", r kelly shouts out "cute young aaliyah's got it (shes got that vibe)". Now why was that cut out the single version I wonder? I listened to the longer album cut, and its true he does say it!

Normally, it wouldn't matter, but he is spitting off a list of what I presume is grown women whos "got that vibe" and aaliyah is one of them?

You're late. I already broke down that whole definition thing, so I'll just copy and paste this from the other thread that got closed:

-----

I looked up the word genius, there was like six different meanings of the word and NONE of them said anything about about setting trends. But do you know what the "trend" would be in this case? Almost every artist running to R. Kelly for a song or tryna get him go sing a hook on your song and even sampling his music. What is that to you? BTW, who started that whole "Mr. Bigg" thing? Who made a great artist like Ron Isley wanna officially adapt that alias? Hell, whose even given the Isley Brothers hits? On just about every R&B/rap album coming nowadays, who as a song written, produced or featuring R. Kelly? Most.

genius - a. A person who has great influence over another.

b. The prevailing spirit or distinctive character, as of a place, a person, or an era.

R. Kelly's lyrics ain't stupid, there just straight-forward (like Milli Jackson) - he doesnt make his lyrics all peotic to the point were you cant understand what the fuck he's talkin about. I aint sayin R. Kelly's a genius just because he makes hits or makes the best love songs, but also because he's extremely creative in his music. He take a different approach that other artists is scared to take.

genius - a. extraordinary intellectual and creative power.

b. A strong natural talent, aptitude, or inclination: has a genius for choosing the right words.

-----

Hate it or love it, he's an R&B genius on this era, so therefore his genius should not be compare to that of another genre or era. Understand?

then just say that he's an extremely creative artist. shrug being blunt in one's work doesn't really qualify for being called a "genius". and in this day and age, what he does and all of his song topics are not shocking.

I'd never heard the album version until I read that in your post. And now that I have...it's no longer a song I can say that I like. It's disturbing for a few reasons. Aaliyah was 12-years-old when that song was written, and it was co-written by Aaliyah's uncle, Barry Hankerson (who introduced her to Kelly). I'm not naive. I know that they were married and the marriage was later annuled, but I didn't know the seed was planted that early. Makes me miss her even more.

Acutally R. Kelly's lyric aint always simple and str8-forward, I said that cause we talkin about "Trapped In The Closet" on that other thread.

actualy I beg to differ I think his lyric are very simple, lackluster, mediocre, and uninspiring...he sings about the same shit on all of his records...he's very predictable...and vocally he is subpar.

Yeah they found more sextapes at his house in Flordia with another underage girl. But because they searched his home without a warrant those charges were dropping, leaving just the charges in Chicago.
