while I'm gettin' ready for tonight "volume I burn"..
here's 1 I don't think I've seen seen anyone mention : "Escape" (the pina colada song) by Rupert Holmes. it fits in this genre, but I actually don't think that much of this song. for me it's too "gimmicky" & too "lolly lalala" (don't ask what "lolly lala" means.. I just made that up!) ah, here's another song that I might add to the compilation - "we've only just begun" by the Carpenters or maybe.. "muskrat love" by Captain & Tenille?? what do y'all think - should I add either of these 2 to "volume I" or should I add neither?? now.. I'm going to see if I spelled "muskrat" correctly.. thunder only happens when it rainin'.. I'll see you tonight..

okay y'all..
here is my PROBABLE track list for my "70s easy rock" compilation cd, in order : We’ve only just begun / Carpenters Muskrat love / Captain & Tennille Silver spring / Fleetwood Mac Sara smile / Hall & Oates I’m not in love / 10cc How deep is your love / Bee Gees I just wanna stop / Gino Vannelli It’s too late / Carole King Baby Come Back / Player Hopelessly devoted to you / Olivia Newton John Fooled around & fell in love / Elvin Bishop Minute by Minute / Doobies Reminiscing / Little River Band Dreams / Fleetwood Mac I Just Want To Be Your Everything / Andy Gibb this tracklist is "tentative" because I WILL ADD Samantha Sang's Emotion, but I have to find a cd with that song on it 1st.. so these are the songs that will be on the cd I MIGHT also add "sailing" from Christopher Cross as well as "how long" from Ace- also if I can find this on a cd (compilation).. I think I would have JUST ENOUGH room for these last 2.. then, a question of "semantics" : do you all think that the term "soft rock" (or "lite rock") is THE SAME as "easy listening".. or do you make a distinction between the 2??? hey don't worry.. I've been lied to I've been here many times before.. I'll see you tonight..

I've been lied to I've been here many times before.. In my mind, these tunes (especially the ones you've selected for your comp) are current day easy-listening. These are the type of songs you'd hear on a station like KOST-FM (103.5) here in L.A. and they use the term Soft-Rock. But just to show how deceptive these terms can be, their playlist includes artists like Leann Rimes, Norah Jones, Backstreet Boys, Celine Dion & Michael Buble. The only way I could label any of these folks Rock is with a stapler. And let's not even get into the Smooth Jazz con. Hey, it's your comp, label it whatever you think it is. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. THANKS DavidEye
for the heads-up for ID-ing the cds that have those "missing tracks" on them.. then, theAudience.. yeah, I have a hardtime distinguishing between "soft rock" & "easy-listening" because SOME songs that I've chosen DO have some elements of "typical rock" songs (that happen to be "slow" or a ballad), while of course others don't. I'm also trying to decide which of the 2 terms sounds more "seventies" (as most of what I have on "volume I" is from that era..) & you are right - it is FUNNY how some stations call some songs by Nora Jones or Backstreet Boys as "easy listening" or "soft rock".. well.. I suppose they want to play these songs on their stations - while those songs are "hot" - to get more listeners.. lastly.. I REALLY DISLIKE the term "smooth jazz". I DISLIKE most of what they call "smooth jazz" & I think that some artists whom I REALLY like - e.g., SADE - are inaccurately LUMPED into this "smooth jazz" format with the likes of Najee (ugh!) & Kenny G (UGH!).. I have nothing in particular against the the type of music these guys play (& they are still "real musicians", after all) I simply am not into that type of music. I really think that the "smooth jazz" moniker was a "clever" way to go after a certain market of listeners who weren't really into "traditional" r&b or soul or rock & also didn't really get into REAL jazz.. so "smooth jazz" was rather.. right in the middle (or between) those forms.. "smooth jazz" my ass! I'll see you tonight..

Nice comp. Marty Balin's vocal on Miracles drives me nuts though.
