but often, that's the point, they aren't supposed to be polished and perfected, their supposed to sound raw, sparse, and unfinished.

Believe me, I like Raw. That's one of the tings I like about the White Stripes.
But even then, some of the songs don't sound like finished ideas.

Yeah, he's a genius IMO.
I like the way the songs just end...makes you want more cool
In any case it will be interesting to see how he grows musically. its just a guess but I bet the best is yet to come.
He's not a bad actor either.

Actually, I am spinning Get Behind Me Satan right now.

It is indeed sketchy, but I like it. Lots of anti Zelweger songs... go Jack!

Have any of you heard the tracks he did for the Cold Mountain soundtrack?

i think there's some role-playing going on with the white stripes, with the red and black clothes, the turn-of-the-century imagery and classic blues references in their album art and videos, and on the other hand, the kinda japanese-pop cutesiness of their older stuff. i think they've had a lot of fun developing "characters" for themselves - at the very least, they've done well in creating a memorable schtick.

Pagey

I am listening to Get Behind Me Satan right now. This thing is brilliant. It's the most original and cool thing I have listened to in ages. I got onto WS from Elephant, which totally grew on me over time. Then when he produced Loretta Lynn's CD, which is the 1st country album I ever bought, I thought this guy has guts to produce a legend like Lynn and make it original. Now this. He definitely has that mid 80's Prince thing going on...he tries it all. Some of it I am rocking out to immediately (Blue Orchid, My Doorbell, The Denial Twist). Some of it I am like "huh?" (Little Ghost, White Moon) but it keeps me interested in hearing it again to see if it will sink in. Cool stuff.

True. I love their attitude towards journalists. They kid around with their characters. Are they bro n sis, are they married? I love that teasing. It sure builds up momentum.
Hope is doesn't get as boring as it did with Prince.

This album is VERY interesting. It actually shocked me upon first listen. I love them.He does sorta reemind me of Prince in a way. The daring, the execution, cockiness, brilliance, lack of fear, falsetto voice, raw talent, dirty mind -style demo sound of his music. He also made his version of Under the Cherry Moon called White Moon(j/k). I think I will be on this cd for quite a while. I know the last cd blew me away after WBC. This is Jack White's time. He is making the best of it. He's the man. He should co-produce Prince.
