On The Low End: Bass!

I can't find my original thread on bassists---it's lost in the Black hole of the org archives , so, if you'll bear with me, I'm startin' it over again...who are your favorite Lords of the Lower Frequencies?

I don't know enough about famous bassists to make a comment. I mainly know groups but not the members' names. I do know that I absolutely love bass and real bass is one of the things that is missing in today's music. Bass and drums make a song for me. They provide the rhythm in a song, that undescribeable "thing" that makes you want to move. A strong bass line is one of the first things that catches my ear when I hear a song for the first time.
