Bread - Essential Nutrition AND Essential 70s Pop

If I can admit is, so can you. smile I'm a big fan of Bread. David Gates was a great songwriter and producer with a pure voice, and with his input they crafted some of the most beautiful ballads of the 70s. I suppose some of their music has been played out on easy listening stations and (likely) department stores, but their music is some of the best produced and orchestrated of its genre and era. It's a shame that all the fighting between him and James Griffin led to an early breakup of the group. I wonder if they could have continued their string of hits.

It Don't Matter to Me
Diary
If
Make It with You
Baby I'm-A Want You
Aubrey
Everything I Own

All of those are great "mellow gold" classics. They had a few good more upbeat numbers like Freedom, but I'd rather listen to the other ones.

A number of artists have done great covers of Bread songs over the years. Earth Wind & Fire did a really nice job of remaking Make It with You on their Last Days and Time album. I love Boy George's version of Everything I Own, and I think Dolly Parton's version of If (from her 2002 album Halos and Horns) is really stunning.

I have many Bread albums. Love so many of their songs. "If" is simply beautiful.

I just have one compilation that I've had for a while now, but I want to get some of their albums. Thankfully, their albums are all available on CD.

I'm also a fan of Bread, although I must admit,I am sick of the song "Make It With You".It's been covered by too many people! These days,I prefer to listen to "Everything I Own"
