Funky/Soul-Jazz Song of the Day - Summer In The City Pulled an unlabeled comp disc out of stack on the way to work and this tune came on. Forgot how good it was.
This tune initially appeared on the Quincy Jones... ...I Heard That! release. This tune is just straight up cool. Out of the gate from the smooth groove of the intro, through the nice electric piano vamp of the pre-chorus, to the signature bassline of the chorus, to the haunting strings setting up the second verse, this is a near perfect and creative arrangement of the Lovin Spoonful's 60s classic. Well what the hey, it's Quincy Jones. Should be on everyone's Songs to Sex By list. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. This is one of those albums I've been trying to get a better copy of for years---They actually put it out on CD in Japan back in the early 90's ---of course it's out of print now, ..... But I dig that tune, Midnight Soul Patrol, and What Good Is A Song..... ... and also in Europe it seems. I saw the CD at the record store last week, together with a couple of other old Quincy albums. I didn't have enuff money with me, so I just got "Smackwater Jack". guess I have to seddle with the vinly for a while longer but this one's in my car right now [Edited 6/9/05 7:16am] Vanglorious... this is protected by the red, the black, and the green. With a key... sissy! | |
