JANE CHILD, anyone?

Does anyone remember Jane Child, of "Don't Wanna Fall In Love" from about 1990? She released 3 CDs commercially and has one she's been peddling on her website. She's cited Prince as a major influence and produces & plays all her own instruments (mostly synthesizers). I always thought she was pretty cool and underrated. I wanted to throw the name out there (here) and see what everyone else thinks...

I love & respect Jane Child for her brand of synthfunk & synthrock.

She's very underrated!!!

But the only thing that these jackasses for music critics are going to remember Jane for is that damn gold chain between her nose & ear ring!

BTW, how is Jane's second album Here Not There?

Jam & Lewis produced some of the songs on her first album, so theres a bit of a Prince connection there.

Jane Child wrote, performed and produced her first album all on her own. Maybe Jam & Lewis had something to do with some of the remixes? I dunno. At any rate, I've only got her first album. It's a nice effort, but there are a few numbers on there that try to be deep and end up being corny. You're My Religion Now comes to mind. But Don't Wanna Fall in Love is one of the greatest dance singles in the last 20 years. It never gets old for me. It's got some New Jack influence that worked to its advantage. Don't Let It Get to You and Welcome to the Real World were also good tracks.

Do Whatcha Do is also a damn good dance-funk track. It's very underrated. And I'm deeply sorry that it wasn't a hit like it should have been.

Hey, we got to give props were its do. If it wasn't for Teddy. Jane Child wouldn't have a slammin New Jack remix for I Don't Wan't To Fall In Love.

Love jane childs first. All the way through.

Love "ds 21" in particular. And of course "dont wanna fall in love". That song is one of my all time fav tracks. Equivilent of spector in the 60's. Wall of synths biggrin

Her "here not there" album is odd. Some is newjack, some in grunge. Something happened with record execs. I think she sabotaged some of the tracks and grung'd them up to spite her record company!

Shit like "calling" and "perfect love" are real swing tunes.

Oh yeah, remix of "dont wanna fall in love" is killer. I love the dub version. Teddy the man.

I only know the one tune, but it's a killer.

Interesting look she had, for a dance artist. neutral
