Domino - Ghetto Jam

This song was the epitome of the west coast influenced movement in the early ninetys. makes you wanna grab some chucks, khakis, and a flannel shirt. and start c-walking.And if you liked mainstream hip hop (even tho this is technically and R&B Song) of the early 90's you know you liked this song.

I was attracted to this tune when it came on the radio.
Probably the eerie sounding track but more so trying to figure out what he was singing. confuse

A couple of lines I managed to decipher after a few listens...

So I approached the freak of the week and I played her like a game of blackjack.
And for all that ass that she toted around, well I offered a back-pack.

hmmm TA, I see you did your homework on the lyrics. Shit, I wasn't feeling that song that much eventhough the beat was kind of slammin. I liked his second release better.

This lyric thing became like an obsession with this tune.

Almost Seinfeld like...

"What's the deal with him wanting to put her ass in a back-pack?"

Crazy lol

Whoa, d*mn, soulchild. You're takin' it back with this selection.

I loves me some Domino. For the folks who used to cruise THE 'SHAW back in the day.

This song was INDEED a stone cold jam (as with "Sweet Potato Pie"). Trunk funk for days. Great choice.

I really liked the guitar and bass work on this track, especially the guitar solo at the end of the song. If you strip away the lyrics and chorus, you have a damn good contemporary jazz track in this record.

I always wondered if that track was partially somebody's sample.
Definitely a cool vibe.

This was a great tune. I was on the west coast when that came out.

Some Domino trivia. His career died so fast because he got no luv at all from the West Coast. It was common knowledge around the rap community in Cali, that he had bitten the style of an up and coming rapper and rushed his album out there before that up and coming rapper was official signed

And that up and coming rapper was?????

I think it has about three sample in it with live instruments in there too. I know It was produced by battle cat who was always deep in the west coast scene.

Ok, that explains the musical arrangement on the cut.

I loved that tune smile Got told off for excessively playing it at the music store I worked in when I was a kid!
