George Michael: Older

I just heard this song on the radio and it sounds pretty amazing. Though I've never been a George Michael fan, I think this is becoming one of favorites by him. I'm thinking about getting the album. Anybody heard this one yet? music

George Michael - Older

Written by George Michael

I should have known
It seemed too easy
You were there
And I was breathing blue

Strange
Don't you think I'm looking older?
But something good has happened to me
Change is a stranger
You have yet to know

Well you're out of time
I'm letting go
You'll be fine
Well that much I know
You're out of time
I'm letting go
I'm not the man you want

I should have known
It seemed so easy
You were there
I thought I needed you

Strange
Don't you think I'm looking older?
But something good has happened to me
Change is a stranger
Who never seems to show

Well you're out of time
I'm letting go
You'll be fine
(or maybe you won't)
You're out of time
I'm letting go

I'm not the man you want
I never should have looked back in your direction
I know that
Just the same old fights again, baby
These are wasted days without affection
I'm not that foolish anymore

Great album, I don't listen to it much anymore, a little too melancholy for my taste now, but a stand out album of GM all the same. He did an album of standards entitled Songs From the Last Century that you might find interesting. My fav by George would have to be Kissing a Fool.

It is.

Common. He's caught in a weird situation. I have bad pics of myself and on others I look hot... it's the moment.

To me Older represent the moment he lost me...

There is obvious beauty on the album, the first two songs are classics, but tunes like Spinning The Wheel were overwrought and farfetched for me.

When I first heard the song, it had a strong jazz influence in it with some R&B flavor fused together.

What are you saying? "Older" is George's masterpiece. It's a dark, haunted, heartbroken album and one of the great albums of the 90s. Gothic bossa nova.

How can you say "Spinning The Wheel" is farfetched. It's about someone worrying about their promiscuous partner, and how they're dicing with death by being with them. I think that's a pretty realistic fear if you're living with someone who plays away from home, no?

I like that album and I think it was really well done, but I know and like all of his others better.

i'm ashamed...i don't own older. i love george michael and lately i've been on a real gm kick. listen w/out prejudice has been a constant in my ears the past few days as has ladies and gentlemen and patience.

i'm gonna take a walk over to itunes and see if they have the whole record.

as for favorite song...geez...it could be praying for time or freedom '90 or cowboys and angels or one more try. the list just goes on and on.

the general public does not give george his songwriting props. he is far too overlooked as just a "popstar"...an "80's popstar" at that. disbelief

Same with his voice. It can't be denied. It's not the first thing people think of, but it should be.

I just love that album, as I do Faith. I was Wham fan, yes I was. I remember being SO shocked when Faith was SO Princey! I thought George was quite the cheeky monkey.

Where Faith was his shaking Wham loose, LWP was his real emancipation. I love that album SO much still.

Older to me sounds tired to me, and GM has admitted he was sad, scared and totally potty while recording it, so I do not feel guilty about admitting the album sounds lesser than it's predesecors.

Man, you're so right about LWP Vol.1. It was just a big "screw you" to both his record company and the people who just loved his "Faith" image. Look at the album's artwork and the booklet, that should tell you a lot and I consider LWP his transitional record.

To me, somehow, Careless Whisper was already a transit record. It was cheesy, yes, but it was him alone and the song had some more depth than the Tropicana happiness of his Wham hits.

Then, Faith was GM buying into his own image too much and LWP was him shaking his shackles.
Even though Older was not much to my liking, the two songs on there I liked made everyhting worth the trouble. I knew Jesus To A Child was his goodbye song to a lost MALE lover, which is also a transition and Fast Love just made me dance.

The last song I really liked was Outside.
