Teena Marie: If I Were A Bell I'm definitely lovin' this song. I've been playing this song all week and it songs good. This ballad is probably one of Teena's best performances and it's sound is just so warm and pleasant. Anybody ever heard this song?  Check me out and add me on:

Eh. I like Teena, but this isn't one of her tunes that I dig. I know a lot of folks love it, but it think it's a goofy ass metaphor. I remember her singing it on Video Soul and Donny Smith starting laughing at the end of it. She asked, "Why are you laughing, Donny?" and he made up some excuse and quickly changed the subject. | |

Was that by chance Donnie Simpson on Video Soul? Anyway.....I LOVE Teena, especially her ballads, and especially this one. Never trust anything spoken in the presence of an erection.

It's a good song and I like it, but it's not one of my favorites by her. There's a station in my area that wears the song out, even to this day. The station has a "soft soul" format, but it seems the only Teena Marie song they ever play is "If I Were A Bell". Overplaying a song can definately be a turnoff. Andy is a four letter word. | |

Hmmmm, If we are talking about the same episode of Video Soul, I have that episode of her singing "If I Were A Bell" & "Casanova Brown", but that's not the way I remember it. She did sing "If I Were A Bell" as you stated, but he didn't laugh...??? He actually hugged her really tight and he said, "I wished I was Rick James, so I can sing back to you." and she responded and said, But you have prettier eyes than Rick does." and They both laughed and he hugged her again, but she had a look on her face like why are you hugging me again  Bernadette Cooper was on that episode, too, and the only time they laughed is when he asked her a question about Rick and her relationship, and Bernadette thought his question was a bit too personal and she said, "That's a loaded question", and they laughed and Donny quickly changed the subject and asked Teena about Marvin Gaye's influnce on her. Teena just had a stunned look on her face & couldn't say anything before Bernadette said that to him. He did get very detailed...My badd, if we are talking about a different episode...
