The early days...
Cream... Blind Faith... Derek and the Dominos... I'm sure there will be other more current suggestions. tA Tribal Disorder http://www.soundclick.com...rmusic.htm "Ya see, we're not interested in what you know...but what you are willing to learn. C'mon y'all."

I heard some of his new one Me & Mr. Johnson, and I was surprised that I thought it sounded pretty good. Slick, but good.
Maybe it's because I don't smoke pot anymore. Check this song out at:

Anyone remember the name of the all blues CD he did back in the 90's? He did a cover of "Motherless Child" on it. It was a great CD, just can't recall the name of it.I have it buried here somewhere.

For a good overall feel for Clapton's guitar styles go for the 24 Nights live album (better than One More Car...and with more blues on it)
The best studio albums are Reptile, From the Cradle and Journeyman.A best of will probably do for his 70's stuff.

I have all those, but nothing past that I don't think. Also some old blues outtake mp3s. Oh, and Crossroads. From the cradle.Blues purists cried foul(thinking clapton was "fakin it")but he picked good songs, that are played well, except hootchie coochie man, which is overplayed.

His solo live albums are better than his solo studio albums.
Look for those. | |

ok, so Clapton claptout to then modern pop. But tracks like "its in the way that you use it" "miss you" "walk away" are very good. Plus for u jacko fans, 4 some reason, jacko co-wrote the single "behind the mask", which is a song I have loved since a little kid. Also the pretenious yet wonderfully atmospheric "grand illusion" is haunting and gorgeous, with a superb guitar solo. Easily one of his best ever guitar solos:- I saw you in a dream, it hit me like a bright light Flashing on a screen, visions of my whole life. I used to chase the moment of desire Back to when my young heart burned like a fire. It was just a, nothing but a grand illusion. Heart was quicker than the eye. Nothing but a grand illusion, Legend in my own mind. I held you in my arms till the other side of midnight. Kept you in my mind, you got me through some long nights. Standing on the threshold of desire, Caught between the madness and the fire. Chorus It was all a grand illusion. Hand was quicker than the eye. Nothing but a grand illusion, Legends in our own minds. I used to chase the moments of desire Back to when my young heart burned like a fire. It was just a, nothing but a, it was all a grand illusion. Nothing but a grand illusion. It was all a grand illusion, Legend in my own mind. It was just a grand illusion. Nothing but a grand illusion. It was just a grand illusion, Legend in our own mind.

first off all.
eric clapton never imittated jimi hendrix guitar style. hendrix borowed from clapton. for example "tales of the brave ulyssis" was the first song ever to have wah wah guitar.same time as jimi hendrix heard it,he bought wah wah cry baby. one of the first things jimi hendrix wanted when he come to london was to meet eric clapton. both of them were young kids (eric was 3 years younger then jimi) both of them played agressive ,both had the same influances like freddie king. but the fact is eric clapton was along with jeff beck one of the first people to play fuzz guitar,IN 1965 ON SOME LONDON WALL was wriotten(clapton is god) jimi hendrix realised his first album in 1967
