Anxy's Wrecka Stow Finds Du Jour: Bebelmania!

It's payday, and some of ya know what that means...time for a haircut and a trip to the wrecka stow to rifle through the used bins! Here's what I got this time around, and I know...it's all cheez-a-licious:

BEBEL GILBERTO: Tanto Tempo and Bebel Gilberto: Remixed - What can I say, this chick has me hooked. I'm listening to Tanto Tempo right now and I'm loving it. And the remix CD is from her latest album, and it includes a bonus disc of extra remixes. Whee!

FALCO GREATEST HITS: Hey, leave me alone. It was a measley $5.99, and now I own "Rock Me Amadeus". Everyone needs a LITTLE Falco in their collection.

JULEE CRUISE: Floating Into The Night - Another cheepie, at $3.99. I've had this on cassette forever, and I've always wanted to upgrade to CD. So here I go. Now I just need to find her second CD in the used bins for cheep. nod

I nearly got Ute Lemper's "Punishing Kisses" (I think that's what it's called) because it has a lot of collaboration with Tom Waits and Nick Cave, but I was a little scared of what it might sound like...anyone have this? Recommendations? They had a couple of copies used, so I may go back for it.

Wow.

An American that knows Ute Lemper AND Falco...

Kewl!

Do you listen to 99 Luftballons in German or English? And do you own Propaganda's Duel?

i love me some falco, though i've never owned any of his stuff. i'm excited to hear the stuff that didn't hit in america. and i don't know ute lemper very well, but i have a feeling i need to.

as for 99 luftballoons, i always liked the german version better - it always seemed more "rare" when i'd hear it on the radio or MTV.

never heard of propaganda. boxed

I downloaded 2 tracks from iTunes because of The Divine Comedy duets and I love them. I will surely pick the album if I see it.

I did the same thing. I bought this album when it first came out. At the time, I only had a cassette deck. It's a favorite of mine, and I just (finally) got it on CD last year. It's perfect to fall asleep to...and then to induce nightmares shortly after you've drifted off.

Your Bossanova thread last week made me order a few cd's (including bebel) because I love Stan Getz "girl from ipanema". Amazon and yada, yada, yada, $100 later, I should have my cd's sometime next week.

This is another reason why I love the Org, expanding musical tastes and having the open mind to actually find cool music and learn.

Bebel Gilberto [Audio CD] Gilberto, Bebel - your thread
Ghana Soundz: Afrobeat, Funk and Fusion in the 70's - africa music
Live at Fillmore West [LIVE] [Audio CD] Curtis, King - recommended here a few weeks ago
Funk Drops [IMPORT] [Audio CD] Various Artists - obscure funk
Super Funk 4 [Audio CD] Various Artists - obscure funk
Cold Heat: Heavy Funk Rarities 1: 1968-1974 [Audio CD] Various Artists - obscure funk
Vocal Technique : A Guide to Finding Your Real Voice (Essential Concepts) - this was a book reccommended from the artists form

Not all Bossa Nova but I added a boat load to my wish list and I'm going to see how I like bebel, the rest is just me being true to the funk and making sure I hear every bit of it.
