Invincible-WAY underappreciated To continue along with the "Bad" thread I would like to say that excluding songs like "The Lost Children" and a few others, Invincible is some of Mike's best vocal work as well as his synth and drum programming work.
Check the grooves and percussion tracks on 2000 Watts and Invincible, not to mention his harmonies and soul in "Heaven Can Wait" as well as his demented, gothic lyrics in "Threatened" The beats on this album rock so hard, you HAVE to dance to it. I never understood why it got so much crap, especially with great atmopheric tunes like "Break of Dawn" | |

I like Invincible too. The first 3 tracks sound too similar though, with the rap in the middle of all of them.
Otherwise the album contains some of his best ballads " Break of Dawn, Speechless, You are My Life, and Cry." Privacy was a little too much HIStory flavored.... Whatever Happens with Santana is sadly a lost gem which should have been a single. And "Threatened" is great too, but it's no "Thriller" Overall, i think this album is underappreciated, though i don't think the sales were too shabby. | |

You should add "Shout" to that list which was much better than 2000 Watts, but int he same vein. His rap-lyric ability is on FIRE! . I put Shout on my own version of invincible instead of 2000 Watts and took Cry off also... Threatened was HOTT. HOW in the hell did he get that narrator to mishmash and say what he wanted him to? I liked it at the time, but it definitely didn't stand the test of time. By the summer after it was released, the album already sounded well behind the trends.

I agree that the first 3 songs are all too similar especially since the all follow one another (and a bit busy for my tastes).
Privacy, You Are My Life, Threatened, 2000 Watts all sound dated or out of place to me. I give Threatened props for the editing tho. Heaven Can Wait is crazy! The bass line reminds me a bit of I Can't Help It. I ALWAYS forget about Don't Walk Away but it's nice little filler song. 11 or 12 tracks would have been fine to make it cohesive. Of course I would have probably complained after waiting for 5-6 years that it was too short but in the end sometimes less is more--quality not quantity. I wish I could agree that it's underappreciated, but like Axchi said, by the summer after it was released, it already sounded totally dated, and for supposedly the most expensively produced album of all time, it sounds awfully underproduced and lackluster.. or maybe it's just me.
His trend-chasing was also getting way out-of-hand, his vocals, except for when he actually SINGS ("Butterflies"=), were annoyingly old-hat, and most of the subject matter, to me, felt like beating dead horses. And "Heaven Can Wait"? It's fine (if dated) until MJ starts that awful screaming (and when combined with that incompetent female back-up vocalist.. ) | |

I say the first 3 tracks (which are the best on there) havn't dated at all. So michael didn't go for midtempo zzzz filllers like the neptunes do. Good 4 him. "heartbreaker" is edgy, and the middle 8 is one of the best I have ever heard. I love the synth noises at the end too. "threatened" is typical mj as are the first 3 "revenge" cuts. They r pure jacko which is why I love them. Some of the other tracks are average though. "you are my life" is a weak version of the much better and underappreciated "on the line". I can swallow "the lost children". I like the middle 8. Maybe he wrote it for "hook" | |

"Invincible" was largely forgettable, IMO. You had a few standout cuts, but he's done way better. If people overlook it, figures. | |

I really feel that the album was Michael's way of trying to come back to the urban R&B territory, returning to the Dangerous formula. Most of the tracks were pretty awesome, but some were just horrible. Some of them also sounded a little like they were remixed. If he just didn't try to overproduce it and letting his ego get in the way by saying "it's the most expensive album of all-time" hundreds and hundreds of times, I think it would've been more of a successful album. I remember playing the album on my personal CD player numerous of times back in 2001 and I think of it as a average record that is better than most of the HIStory material he did back in '95. I like it though. jacko got some unknown for the tracks "invincible" and "heartbreaker". He does the job good enough, and Iam surprised he didn't get in a famous guest. i initially thought invincible was a strong album but the past few times i've listened to it i skipped about half of the tracks. the good tracks are very good but they all sound the same (except for 2000 watts). the cd lacks variety as far as its sound goes. i like it but its definitely my least favorite mj record. | |

Break Of Dawn too I feel this album was a better ender than History but not a better beginner. Scream They Dont Care About Us Stranger In Moscow to Unbreakable Heartbreaker Invincible Why did he have to end with Little Suzie and Smile??? I would've preferred them as bonus single tracks and ended off with HIStory instead. But hey, every MJ track is a blessing to hear to me. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

yeah, History would be a nice end, but I´d miss Little Susie and Smile. They´re a bit depressing and one has to be in mood to listen to them, bt once you are in that mood, there´s nothing like it. I LOVE the first 3 cuts off "invincible" way more then the first 3 off "history". Then "invincible" goes downhill from there. I was like yes, this is gonna be like "dangerous" with the more serious tracks at the end. But I was wrong. Iam sick of "scream" (I hear the jam/lewis remix instead if I have to) and "they dont care about us" is good, but ? I prefer "heartbreaker" alot more. Yeah "stranger in moscow" beats "invincible", but not by much. I dance my ass off to all 3 of those "invincible" cuts. | |

oh yeah the blips and beeps, thats quality, i mean its over the top, but michael can get away with it, he is over the top.. the blips i have to admitt were quite original and a nice surprise to that that song never a dull moment, although wait, the song could do without the RAP bit, there was nooo need for that, it think that was the only flaw to the song. Heartbreaker rules.. but my favourtie track from the album is Whatever happens that tracks stand out miles ahead it will end up being in my top favourite of mike for a while..
