eels with strings - LIVE! Just got back from a great show from eels. To promote his latest album 'Blinking Lights & Other Revelations', eels' frontman E decided to take his music in a different setting. E was only backed by 4 girls (3 violin-players, one cellist), a guitar-player (both acoustic & electric) and a contra-bass player. A two hour show which took me on a musical journey through E's life. His songs, sung solidly, from his career still stood strong in these stripped-down versions, E's strong voice singing them very well.
The string-section added special flavor to the music as well. E was in an exceptional good mood, cracking jokes (and he IS funny!), taking requests, thanking the crowd (which was an very good crowd!). Three encores, each consisting of two songs. eels delivered tonight, it was great. Then the show was over, people were leaving, lights were on. Having been at an eels-show before, we stayed (and so were others).....after ten minutes they came back and performed.....Prince's 'I Could Never Take The Place Of Your Man'!!!!!, with the lights on!!!!! It was great, also to see the band enjoy theirselves so much! check www.eelstheband.com for further tourdates (I'm seeing them again Friday next week!!!!), this show is worth the ticketprice!!!! | |
