What do you think of his version of Unchained Melody as sung right before his death, distorted but beautiful. I think he was crying out for help and no one heard him. Anyway, as Prince would say, Elvis is king.

He would?

Prince has never gave me that impression.

That version of "Unchained Melody" was amazing, especially considering how close he was to his death. Even the Politically Correct brigades who come on here to attack Elvis, if they actually sat down and listened to the man, would have to admit that he was one of the greatest singers who ever lived, up there with Frank Sinatra and Aretha and Billie Holliday and Sam Cooke

Well, just pay attention, if you know Elvis and you know Prince, you know how Prince has been heavily influenced throughout his career by Elvis, since it seems unlikely to people, it's easy to miss.

Most of the Anti-elvis people are like any other anti-x people. They won't just sit down and be objective and even give an artist a chance. Their loss really. It's easy and lazy to just throw out judgmental statements, it takes thought and effort to get to anything of substance, people being lazy would opt for the former. Nevertheless, if these people ever had a chance to be in the presence of Elvis or to feel the electricity that he could generate, their would be no denying, as there is no great artist, how great he is. Forget the rumours, the image, the lifestyle with Elvis (or Prince) and you have something that cannot be denied and will go down in history.

Most of the people who come on here and rant against Elvis, all they know about him is what Chuck D said in Fight the Power" almost 20 years ago.
And Chuck D himself has said many times since that he respects Elvis' talent as a great American artist. His issue was in how he was marketed, which is a legitimate argument

nod

I've often thought, listening to his later recordings and performances, that you could hear his pain in his voice. Even when he's singing an upbeat number, it all had a sad edge to it toward the end.
