Innervisions

I have a new, 60 min commute by train and I had Innvervisions on both ways today. Wow...hadn't listened in a while. The first chorus of 'Don't You Worry 'Bout a Thing' is so perfect over the piano. Stevie is in complete control...this is still a MAMMOTH record. eyepop

nod i think it's got a solid place in my top ten favorite albums of all time, it's certainly one the most seamless, tightest albums ever. And Don't You worry bout a thing is one the most pure expressions of joy ever recorded

I love this album, I love all Stevie's albums...

Everytimes I listen to Innerversions, I'm still amazed... Incredibile...

It's hard to believe he was only 23 years old when he produced this album...

I said it on another thread. Stevie was in the hands of God when he created this masterpiece.

I agree. As much as I love "Talking Book", I would have to say "Innervisions" was Stevie at the top of his game, overall. The Curtis Mayfield/Marvin Gaye political overtones mixed with urban black street life tales in his lyrics, his musicianship, the realism in his vocals (Livin' For The City), whenever I think of Stevie, I think of this album.

Words cannot express how much I adore this album. This was the first Stevie Wonder album I purchased and it continues to astound me to this day. It contains some of his best and most thought provoking work. Too High, Higher Ground, Living For The City and He's Mistra Know It All are all timeless, mindblowing socio-political tracks. While the ballads/love songs are too good for words. Can someone say Golden Lady? And don't even get me started on All In Love Is Fair! I often recommend this album to people that are only familiar with post 1980s Stevie Wonder and they have all thanked me for introducing them to such brilliance. Innervisions is in my all time top 5 albums and my favorite Stevie Wonder album overall. One of those albums you can play from start to finish because there are no wasted notes and every thing is perfect....It's just too good for words.worship

I just don't know about all of his 70's "power" albums. I mean, all four from Talking Book to Songs In The Key Of Life is just simply brilliant. But when you talk about Innervisions, you really get me mixed up. That's when I can't determine whether Songs In The Key Of Life or Innervisions is his greatest album. Innervisions is amazing, with Stevie playing and mastering all of those instruments and having a social-wise commentary on the world's issues (from drugs all the way to religion). What I can say about Innervsions is that it is one of his most focused, mastered, and grooviest album in his whole catalog of albums. It definitely goes into my top 10 favorite albums of all-time:with it being #2. SITKOL, on the other hand, was my first STEVIE WONDER album. Yes, it was a little over the top, but it was his most mammoth and grand album. He started to stop playing most of the instruments and bring studio musicians in to create more of a orchestral and wall-of-sound. That's part of why I love SITKOL so much and think that's his greatest. Innervisions was his "What's Going On", with a rawer sound to it, so this is his best to me by far and also my #2 favorite album of all time.

Excellent points...Innervisions and Songs In The Key of Life are a tough choice for me because I'm a big fan of grand double albums and they don't get much better than Songs. The only reason I give Innervisions the edge is because of the cohesiveness and the fact that its mainly one person playing and singing everything. But they are like 1 and 1a... That just speaks to his brilliance, Stevie is a treasure.

I recently bought four of Stevie's 1970s albums in the last month or two. I'm still listening to them and getting the feel of them. "Innervisions" is pretty good but so far my two favorites from the 1970s are "Songs In The Key Of Life" and "Talking Book". I still have a lot more listening to do before I can make an honest preference. My favorite Stevie Wonder album of all time is still "Hotter Than July" but I have had it since it was in style.

By the way, thanks David Eye for the recommendation of "Songs In The Key Of Life". It was a great start in purchasing the 1970s albums. There are songs on there I absolutely love and there are others that are quickly growing on me. The opening song, "Love's In Need Of Love Today", is one that I am absolutely wearing out. It's gotten to the point that I will play the song again after it just finished playing. lol I had forgotten about that song and was very pleased to hear it again after all these years.
