Favorite Multi-Instrumentalists

Okay. I've seen this topic before but I need your help. I'm looking for some artists I can check out that produce, arrange compose and perform all of the stuff on their albums, besides Prince of course.

I saw a gentlemen's name on this forum before that did that in the seventies and has only had a few albums out. He just recently independently introduced a new album online, however I can't remember his name. Plus this would be a good chance for me to be introduced to other artists that "can do it all" so to speak.

Thanks everyone. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sidney Bechet recorded The Sheik of Araby and Blues of Bechet in 1941. He played clarinet, soprano saxophone, tenor saxophone, bass and drums.

These are all awesome artists. Still haven't come across the artist yet. I think his name started with an "R". Anyone?

Yes, I supposed that he was the first to use rerecording this way. And he is a terrific saxophonist, but it seems that his removal in France made him quiet forgotten in the US. That is a shame because he is one of the true jazz masters who has influenced modern player such as John Coltrane, Roland Kirk or Steve Lacy.

don't know where psyko is, so I'll drop it in the meantime, lol :

Lewis Taylor- this man really does it all--if you like Prince, Todd Rundgren, Shuggie Otis, Marvin Gaye and Brian Wilson, you gotta check him out --I think he ranks right up there with the best of 'em! and does it all--Multi-layered Vocals, Guitar, Bass, Keyboards, Percussion, you name it! His biggest fans include D'Angelo, Elton John, Chaka Khan, David Bowie, Pharell, Daryl Hall, Timbaland, and Raphael Saadiq...just to name a few...and his sound is a combination of all of the above, Covering Soul/Pop/Funk/Rock/Jazz/Pyschedelia....
