Why did Sly want to kill Larry Graham ? As a funk lover and fan of Sly and the Family Stone I´ve always wondered about this.
OK, so Sly had drug problems and Larry became a JW, but why did he want to actually KILL him ? Why the hatred ? " I´d rather be a stank ass hoe because I´m not stupid. Oh my goodness! I got more drugs! I´m always funny dude...I´m hilarious! Are we gonna smoke?"

from what i understood, before larry went full-on into JW, he was as messed up in his own was as sly was, and the two had a bitter rivalry regarding who had the loyalty of the band and the folks in the family stone camp.
someone correct me if i'm wrong - i read this in a sly & the family stone bio i picked up at the library a couple years back, wish i could remember the name of the book...

The book was called,
"For The Record: Sly & The Family Stone, An Oral History"... Very informative..... [Edited 5/17/05 14:39pm]

Yup, that was the book:
Yeah, back then , they were both trying to live the "Big Bad Gangster" life, and seemed to be trying to "out-Gangsta" each other... ... " I've got six things on my mind --you're no longer one of them." - Paddy McAloon, Prefab Sprout

yup, that's the book.
after reading about what a power-hungry pimp LG used to be back in the day, it made me understand a little better why prince would look up to a 'spiritually enhanced' version of him.

Sounds like Larry's trying to have an excuse for everything he's done wrong
in the past , like prisoners often become religious

Also, in Mojo magazine, Sly was the cover stover regarding the drama and hell in Sly's world following the huge success of the "Stand" album. This issue was from 01 or 02. It talked about Sly wanting to "get" Larry mainly for Larry sleeping with Freddie Stone's wife and fucking over Sly's sister, who was in love with Larry. Larry was looking under his car and shit, thinking Sly's buddies had planted a bomb there. It was a lot of wild shit. I had no idea there was all of the shit goin on. In Sly's mind, it truly was a riot! SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

Hey EWM, good seein' ya! You may not like Larry Graham, but seriously dude, Prince was already a grown man in the mid-90s. It may be true that Larry helped him find his new path, but Prince was already ready for it. So please don't over-estimate Larry's influence on him. Besides, I'd never wanna kill Larry .. he's one of the greatest funk bass players of all times, a true legend. Just my two cents.

You know rumor has it that Sly Stone had a baby by Cynthia Robinson!! Check me out and add me on:

Larry Graham Sure he's a hustler. So is Prince. Selling 2001-Prince-calendars on his website and charging people for downloading TV-specials is nothing but a hustle. But FYI: Larry has been doing quite well before he hooked up with Prince. In 1994 he reunited his group Graham Central Station and played sold out performances all over the world. Over the long run, I actually believe that his association with Prince hurt him more than it benefited him.

I'm sure a lot of fans feel that way But as I mentioned before, what does that say about Prince? Is he that weak of a man? To be totally "brainwashed" by another man? Listen to what you're saying Larry has done. So, Prince just "let" himself get pimped? By another man? SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. Especially when he talks about Hendrix."

I don't know , but fact is P stopped singing sexually explicit lyrics
and cursing words after he met Larry and even changed the song title 'The Cross' into 'The Christ'

howwwww did i know that this was gonna end up as yet another "let's bash larry cuz he [supposedly] brainwashed prince" thread, as opposed to sticking with the subject at hand?
