Some nice pop songs. But man have they dated.

"wannabe" has some good memories of middle school attached to it. All the girls would sing it for the talent show. Other then "wannabe", the rest just sound average and kinda stale now.

Mama
Last Time Lover headbang (serious funk)
Something Kinda Funny
Spice Up Your Life ill
Too Much

People complained about the Spice Girls back in '96, but in reality, they actually had more talent than pretty much anyone on the radio today. lol Oh, shit - what does that bode for the future? eek

Their first two records have some really great pop songs on them, in particular "Wannabe" (makes no sense, but an infectious groove), "Say You'll Be There", "2 Become 1" (very pretty), "Last Time Lover" (sexy), "Who Do You Think You Are" (good neo-disco), "Stop" (nice Motown influences), "Too Much" (a gorgeous instrumental, they don't make 'em like this anymore), and "Viva Forever".

I fucking hate "Spice Up Your Life", though - what a horrible first single for the second LP.

My favorite song is "Stop".

I have the singles saved on my hard drive:

Wannabe
Say You'll Be There
2 Become 1 (single version)
Who Do You Think You Are
Mama
Spice Up Your Life
Too Much
Stop
Viva Forever
Holler
Let Love Lead The Way
Tell Me Why
Goodbye

I play them every once in awhile. It's all good.

The fun thing about the Spice Girls, is that you knew not to take them seriously. They didn't promote themselves that way, and that made their music tolerable compared to the their cohorts. The songs were just fun. That doesn't mean they should be touted as the best girl group or anything like they. They were cheeky fun, and I listen to their music, but I don't miss them.

I used to be a big Spice Girls fan in 9th grade. GIRL POWER (YES)! ::Scary Spice laugh:: Me and this other girl used to sit around at recess and lunch talking about the SP's while reading the "Girl Power" fan book. It was an intense, one-year love affair with that fivesome. biggrin

Instant '90s camp*!

I hated "Wannabe" at first too. I thought The Spice Girls were the worst British export ever at the time. Then I heard "Say You'll Be There" and saw the video--and did a complete 180°.
