Some nice pop songs. But man have they dated.
"wannabe" has some good memories of middle school attached to it. All the girls would sing it for the talent show. Other then "wannabe", the rest just sound average and kinda stale now.

Shame they came back after that Luckily the USA public didn't have to hear victoria beckhams "innocent girl" song. That was puckifying [Edited 5/23/05 8:58am]

People complained about the Spice Girls back in '96, but in reality, they actually had more talent than pretty much anyone on the radio today. Oh, shit - what does that bode for the future?
Their first two records have some really great pop songs on them, in particular "Wannabe" (makes no sense, but an infectious groove), "Say You'll Be There", "2 Become 1" (very pretty), "Last Time Lover" (sexy), "Who Do You Think You Are" (good neo-disco), "Stop" (nice Motown influences), "Too Much" (a gorgeous instrumental, they don't make 'em like this anymore), and "Viva Forever". I fucking hate "Spice Up Your Life", though - what a horrible first single for the second LP.

The fun thing about the Spice Girls, is that you knew not to take them seriously. They didn't promote themselves that way, and that made their music tolerable compared to the their cohorts. The songs were just fun. That doesn't mean they should be touted as the best girl group or anything like they. They were cheeky fun, and I listen to their music, but I don't miss them. "Funkyslsistah… you ain't funky at all, you just a little ol' prude"!

It was an intense, one-year love affair with that fivesome. Instant '90s camp*! . [Edited 5/23/05 11:46am]

I ain't gonna say that I was the biggest Spice Girls fan. But I always fantasized about being in a 3-way with Scary and Ginger Spice. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I looooove
WHO DO YOU THINK YOU ARE and SOMETHING KINDA FUNNY! "When Michael Jackson is just singing and dancing, you just think this is an astonishing talent. And he has had this astounding talent all his life, but we want him to be floored as well. We really don´t like the idea that he could have it all."

I hated "Wannabe" at first too. I thought The Spice Girls were the worst British export ever at the time. Then I heard "Say You'll Be There" and saw the video--and did a complete 180°.
