Yeah, I wasn't a fan of his remake of Tell Me I'm Not Dreaming either nor was I a huge fan of his take on Mercy Mercy Me, but he had a genuine appreciation for reggae and soul music. And then there was Power Station - the Chic/Duran Duran/Robert Palmer outfit - a concept some love and others love to hate. The album yielded two big hits, Some Like It Hot and their cover of T-Rex's Get It On (Bang a Gong). Now Some Like it HOt, WAS THE JAM!! I forgot he did that. Yeah I love that song. The lyrical arrangement with the sax is on fire. Straight Jacket Funk Affair

Hard choice for me, since I like both versions of the song.
In Cherrelle's version, you can definitely hear the Princely influence in the keyboard arrangement. Guess it would be difficult for Jam and Lewis to work with Prince and to not be musicially influenced by him. I like Palmer's version because he sings it a lot lower than Cherrelle, which kind of adds a new twist to the song. Like I said earlier, a hard choice, since I can't really choose one over the other. emoticon edit [Edited 5/27/05 17:48pm] RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

[Edited 5/23/05 8:45am] I was thinking that Jam and Lewis' version of this song sounded like a cut off the 1999 album as well. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

Cherelle's version, hands down.
FUNKIER, "rawer".. & I like the REMIXED version of this song even better! I like Palmer as a singer, but his version of this song is too "low key" for me.. I'll see you tonight..

I wonder what Jam and Lewis thought of Palmer's version of their song? Did they like it, hate it, felt indifferent towards it? Curious question that we'll probably never know the answer to. RIP, mom. I will forever miss and love you.

They liked it enough to include it on their 4-disc EMI promo Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis: The Hit Songs, a set that includes "most of our favorite songs." [Edited 5/28/05 13:42pm]

I didn't know that one neither. It's been mentioned on here a few times, but not in a while. It's a great set of songs, 78 in total, but they're all edits to fit on the discs. It's fairly comprehensive and spans 1982 - 1995. If you're willing to pony up the cash, it generally goes for somewhere in the $100 range. It also includes a 14-page booklet.
