Well what do you know. I've been exploring these two albums recently, so thanks for giving me more to chew on. I've only listened to TTWOTW once, but I love All N All. It's beautiful and positive. I'm especially feeling Fantasy.
And yes, it's true...I'm a bit of a latecomer.  | |

With this album,they took their music to another level.Before going into the studio to record it,they spent some time in Brazil,which gave them alot of inspiration and fresh ideas."Fantasy" is one of their finest,most original singles ever...in 1977,you didn't hear too many other funk/soul bands coming up with a sound like that.On "Runnin",the guys explored their Latin funk/jazz roots and the results are impressive.This album also contains a fair amount of sizzling funk jams: "Serpentine Fire","Magic Mind" and the blistering "Jupiter".And let's not forget the killer slow jams.On the dreamy"I'll Write A Song For You",Philip Bailey's vocals are just amazing.His voice just soars and soars.Not to be outdone,Maurice White handles the lead vocals on the closing number "Be Ever Wonderful",which is just blissful.The song is heavenly.Another slow jam from this album,"Loves' Holiday" has rightfully become a Quiet Storm staple.There are also several exotic interludes on this album,which are fun to listen to.Without question,this is Earth Wind and Fire's shining masterpiece. Very well said, David. I agree. I was going to write a thread about "I'll Write A Song For You" too. I adore that song. I have all of E,W & F albums from the 70's and they all have their moments. But yeah, "All N All" is their best album, to me. "Fantasy" is one of my faves by anyone. To this day, I play this in my ride. SynthiaRose said "I'm in love with blackguitaristz. heard it on one of my mom's old tapes. it's on the 'Spirit' album,released in 1976.This is the album that appears in Prince's "Musicology" video.  Spirit is a great album! Even if it only contained Getaway, that would be reason enough for me to own it. I can't pick just one, but it's definitely one of my favorite EWF jams. I love that horn breakdown at the end of the chorus, and I especially love the way it rumbles my speakers if I play it extra, extra loudly! | |
