Question for everyone on here...

Why is it that a lot of people put the worth of an album on its Billboard chart position or how many copies it has sold. What does chart positions have to do with the quality of an album? I have always thought that it was ludicrous to base an album or artists' worth/integrity on Billboard. Especially, when the mainstream listeners are so fickle. Also, it just amazes me how the hip hop "code" has changed so much. I can remember in the late 80's/early 90's, when hip hop artists FROWNED on big sales and the commercialization of hip hop. They revelled in hip hop being underground and raw and they clowned Hammer for going pop and selling but they have embraced that now? I even heard 50 Cent commenting that Jadakiss hadnt even with Platinum..but he sold a million in the first week....WHAT IN THE WORLD.... how has hip hop flipped now...

Someone, please explain this to me!

They wanted money all along. They used to frown on Hammer because they were jealous that they weren't making the kind of money he was. I wish they would go back to the days of frowning on big sales and take their asses back underground so some good music can get back in the mainstream.
