The Jets - singing group of the 80s

whatever happened to them?

They were the first group that I bought and LP from. I was like 7 or 8. They were a family group/band.

"make it real" was their biggest hit right?

They did a small festival concert here in St. Paul 2 years ago. They did release a CD with remakes of their old songs too I believe. I think some of them just looked a lil fatter or just older.

My favorite songs on my scratched up almost cant play no more Jets Greatest Hits:

Cross My Heart
Crush on You (of course)
Curiosity (very-underrated)
Rocket 2 U (kinda cheesy but fun)
U Got It All (Kmoj Minneapolis quiet storm lovemakin)
Special Kinda Love dancing jig
Straight Jacket Funk Affair
Album plays and love for vinyl records.

I thought The Jets were cool.In late 1985,I bought their debut album after hearing the first single "Curiosity".Not too long after, the second single "Crush On You" was all over the radio. You couldn't escape that song...it was so catchy and infectious,a perfect little R&B jam....

How did you know? Cause I never told
You found out...I got a crush on you

More great singles followed ("Private Number" and the ballad "You Got It All").I saw them in concert in March 1986,where they performed on a bill with Ready For The World and Doug E.Fresh and Slick Rick.To me,The Jets put on the best show.Their show was energetic and fun.Prince was a big fan of theirs too.In 1987,he offered them a song "Neon Telephone" for their second album, but they rejected it.Nevertheless,he allowed them to film their 1987 video "I Do You" at Paisley Park Studios.A few more singles followed ("Cross My Broken Heart"..."Make It Real" (which sounds alot like "You Got It All")..."Rocket 2 U"),but unfortunately, they faded away soon thereafter.

Their biggest hits were "Crush On You" and "You Got It All".Like their labelmates Ready For The World, they enjoyed two successful albums before their career took a nosedive.

They also had another jam called "Rocket 2 U" which was produced by Bobby Nunn. I remember that one being all over the radio back in the day.

some trivia about that song...at first,it was offered to Earth Wind and Fire (!) in 1987,for inclusion on their 1987 comeback record 'Touch The World'.They turned it down.

okay, so who sings "make it real" lyrics are:

"I loved you, you didn't feel the same though we're apart you're in my heart, give me one more chance to make it real. In a dream you are here to guide and hold me near, and in my heart I pretend that you are here again, hear me crying out to you saying never never will I leave blah blah blah"

It appears on their second album 'Magic',released in 1987.It was the third single.Nice song, even if it does sound ALOT like "You Got It All".

I'm surprised that nobody came up with the idea to make a Jets TV sitcom. It could have been a modern-day "Brady Bunch"....a huge singing family living in a large household together. Each episode could have concluded with them performing a song (a la 'The Partridge Family').
