Another Musician "Shocked" at their Label CHRIS MARTIN: 'WE'RE SLAVES TO EMI'
Coldplay frontman Chris Martin has blasted music company EMI Group PLC for pressing his band to improve the corporation's stock price by selling millions of copies of their new album, X&Y. Martin refuses to be intimidated by EMI, which owns Coldplay's record label Capitol, so he has attacked the music giant for making him a slave to shareholders. He complains, "I don't really care about EMI. I'm not really concerned about that. "I think shareholders are the great evil of this modern world. I'm not comfortable with the slavery that we are all under to shareholders. "It's very strange for us that we spent 18 months in the studio just trying to make songs that make us feel a certain way and then suddenly become part of this corporate machine. "Deadlines mean nothing to us. We'll sink the whole company (EMI) if we have to." SSB - Says "Wah Wah Wah!" You sign into a contract...you need to deal with it. SHareholders are NOT the problem. It's the WHOLE damn industry that's the problem. Christian Zombie Vampires

Funny because it is the shareholders investments that make it possible for their disc to be manufactured at such high volume and marketed across the planet.
I really don't understand these people...

if they didn't want to be in a business, they'd have just continued to play bar dates in their hometown.
it's a 2 way street. Coldplay has benefitted immensely from being signed to EMI. EMI wants a return on their investment. what's so "shocking" about that? "Awards are like hemorrhoids. Sooner or later, every asshole gets one."

I really don't understand these people... ----- You don't understand a corporation trying to influnce an artist output to drive up revenue. If Coldplay went cheap on this CD or hurried up to put it out and it was not up to standards it might not do well and could effect future output. It is better for the group to take their time and do their best than to rush because the shareholders are waiting for their diviends. If EMI took the time to develop other acts on their label they would not be so desperate for one group to do well but the whole industry has not figured out how to develop artist and bands over the long haul.
