This to me is his more abstract work. Very simple piano chords and jumpstart drumming. This was the last track on Songs For Silverman, and it ended the album on a serious, yet mysterious note...
When I first heard this song.. it took a few plays to let it sink in, but once its under your skin, it knocks you on your face..
The melody is very meloncholy, but it looses control towards the end of the song with dirty bass and fast drumming.
Folds says "Floating by like a satellite to pass the time.. we'll float by again. And I can tell you bout the little things, so you dont think about the big things for a while" still the same piano chords swirl as the drums and bass, steel guitar play its way out the mess its created.. almost as if its coexisting with the lyrics of living a life, then ending up alone..

"We walked the earth, we talked and never spoke a word, she wonders who will be the first to go... alone"

Powerful ending to a great album. Not a dud on it, and so far the album of the year for me.

I hope some orgers will actually listen to it....

Sounds great. I only have Whatever & Ever Amen and love that album, but that's the way Evaporated seems to be as well. The piano in Evaporated always reminded me of the 'Prince' album piano pieces.

I'd be very suprised... There be lots of sheep in these woods.. and top 40 is guiding them wherever they lay..

Well, it's either strictly R&B, heavy industrial rock, or old classic rock around here. Which leaves little room for the great current talents.

It's very unfortunate that Ben Folds equates to elevator music to folks around here. They don't know what they're missing.
