Don't sleep on his new shit????? I love all of his recent output. Everything from '93 til now I'd give at least 4 stars. He's definitely hit his stride again and kept it up.

I love his updated verison of "You've Got A Habit Of Leaving Me" and his cover of "Cactus" is amazing. I really like Bowie but surpringsly don't have many of his albums. Of his hits, I think I would say "Ashes To Ashes". [Edited 5/20/05 19:27pm]

'jump they say' is one of my major bowie faves, if that's any consolation. i never leave it off bowie compilations that i make for friends. but really, as '80s/early '90s bowie goes, i get more out of 'tonight' than i get out of 'black tie'.

Don't sleep on his new shit????? i love his new shit - 'heathen' is one of my favorite bowie albums, easily up there with his so-called 'glory days' work. "Heathen" might be one of my all time favorite albums and it was something I just kind of bought on a whim. And actually the first copy of it I got was severly damaged and it was the special edition and they didn't have another copy, so I was stuck with a credit. I was really pissed but really wanted the CD. I ended up buying it as soon as I got some money at another store and was very happy I did.

Anxiety said: Just playin'. No need to hide. I just really like that album. I know it has some filler, but the overall sound of his voice, the production, the funkiness, the rebirth of the sax in his music, the genuine love for his wife you can hear - all that sounds very nice to my ears. I had been aware of Bowie and taped some of his songs off the radio, but when that album came out, it was the first one I actually bought. So it has heightened value for me. I really like most everything on there, except I could do without the instrumentals.

I like SEVERAL of Bowie's "classic" catalogue of the mid- to late 70s..
but if I somehow "had" to choose 1 song from him, it would be.. "blue blue electric blue that's the color of my room where I will live.. blue blue.. I will sit right down waiting for the gift of sound & vision.." this song is BRILLIANT, "ahead of its time" I love EVERY part of this song : the scortching synths, the "twangy" guitar that rumblin' bass those rockin' drums & the way Bowie's voice goes from low to high then high to low then back again! yeah, this would have to be my favorite from the "thin white duke" closely followed by (I think) China Girl.. I'll see you tonight..

Yes, in my mind there's some kind of connection between Life on Mars? and Slip Away. It's just amazing that after all those years he could still/could again do such an amazing ballad. I also think this album was very important for him as a writer. Wasn't it around this time that he said that he got the confidence to play his classic stuff together with new stuff back to back? Or was this earlier?
