Most of the songs sound like Eddie Murphy's "Party All The Time",with that same synth-heavy,drum-machined,robotic music. It is Rick's worst album and not surprisingly,he and Motown parted ways after that fiasco.

I love "Party All The Time" but I don't care for "The Flag". biggrin

Don't forget the song "This Magic Moment" from the 1989 various artists album "Rock, Rhythm, and Blues". It's a remake of an old song (I don't know the name of the original artist). I didn't think it was all that great. I kind of reminded me of "Sexual Luv Affair", which I could take or leave.

I just burned me a copy of that 45, which I never knew existed, from my brother-in-law this year. I needed it to complete my collection. Now all I need is that "Great White Cane" album. lol

I don't have that one. With it being recorded in 1989, I assume it would probably be like some of the late 1980s albums, which wasn't near as good as the earlier stuff. I still want it though. lol

I was thinking of the exact same album because "This Magic Moment" was recorded in 1989 (the same year as "Kickin'") and it sounds like it would fit in with 1988's "Wonderful".

He was feuding with Motown around that time,so I bet that he purposely made a bad album just to fulfill his contract.Like Prince did in the 90s with albums like 'Chaos and Disoreder' lol

I love all of Rick's LP's. Even "Urban Rapsody" (lol). Well produced CD. A little "light" on the funk, but it still grooves. My fave Rick joint is "Street Songs". He was at the top of his game. And David Eye you are correct. The deluxe edition/live version of "SuperFreak" is the jam! I loved Tom McDermott's wild ass guitar playing...he gave Rick that "funk-rock" vibe... "Garden Of Love" and "Fire It Up" were OK...."Glow" was a cool pop-R&B LP. I loved "17" and the "Glow" video.....well, we all know what movie that video reminds us of..lol...it's still a cool video.. "I DON"T NEED YOU...I'M RICK JAMES!!!"

I agree. I have all of Rick's joints too. "Street Songs" is Rick's best album. I'll put "Bustin Out Of L7" next. "Come And Get It", then "Fire It Up", THEN "Throwin Down".
