Novabreaker said: Fear no. I just happened to listen to a Chinese webradio station that played Chinese rap. And let me just tell you, I've heard all the most extreme powernoise / deathindustrial / grindcore -albums in the world, but that stuff was just vile! It was truly hardcore, just in the most unexpected way. I don't think even the performers themselves are aware of their brand of hard-coreness. I mean I've heard all kinds of ethnic rap music: Armenian rap, Somalian rap - even Bosnian rap. But Chinese rap is completely out of this world. It's truly a "" -type of experience.
Have you heard of the middle eastern MC named Iron Shiek? He raps about things from a middle eastern perspective and even the war in Iraq. Very eye-opening stuff.

Well no, I haven't. There are great "ethnic" rappers all around the world too, I know. I've been subjected to a lot of it, and I like for instance French hip-hop far much more than American hip-hop, altough I really know squat about it. But there's just something about the "Shanghai-scene" that is, well, beyond human comprehension. [Edited 5/19/05 7:59am]

Not too familiar with the "Shanghai-scene," but it sounds like something I need to check out. I mainly know of Asian emcees by way of America.

Really, it's just terrible music in the end. I think you'd need to see some of the visuals too to catch the whole experience. However, I can point out a few good names (worth checking out) of the Nordic scene for you: Looptroop (SWE), Ceebrolistics (FIN), Brandon (FIN). The last one is a guy whose demos I used to record a few years back, I'm glad that he's making it big. He has already been the warm up act for several members of the G-Unit (yes, yes, I know they're crap - but it's a big honour anyway) and such.

Stockholm actually has a pretty decent hip hop scene. Namely Backroom Matches, Shufflaz and DJ Propaganda (he makes some dope a** beats). Backroom Matches was on the Rookie stage at Hultfreds back in '03. Haven't heard from them after their 2002 EP Sota, though.
