Autechre - Untilted Has anyone else on this board heard this yet? (Yes, it's in fact called "Untilted", not "Untitled" - it's printed on quite small just to piss you off) I had to pay import price to get this thing on my hands when it was released some weeks ago, and I have to say I'm a bit disappointed. It's not that the music wouldn't be enough complex or demanding, but I feel like this is just IDM by the numbers. The sounds are crisp and clear (mostly analog, instead of samples), the cuts well-defined, but something's lacking. Proper innovation? I am not sure about the mixing either, it sounds a bit tinny on my stereos.
I still to this day think "Chiastic Slide" is one of the best records, perhaps the best, ever made. "Untilted" is an alright record, but it adds absolutely nothing new to the genre. By experimental music's standards this is definitely on the pop end of things, and they should have attempted to emphasize its grasping points a bit more. Or go overboard a bit more instead.

Another try, and then I'll let this thread die.

Cool. It came out about a month ago.

I have the debut. I don't like it as much as some other Autechre people have played for me. What do you recommend?

My favourite is of course "Chiastic Slide", but that one is also one of the noisiest. "Amber" is fine too. The newer ones - "Confield" and this "Untilted" are perhaps the ones for fans of more purist electronic music.
Happy (illegal) downloading.

Happy (illegal) downloading. Thanks, and I'm thinking of more of a long-term shopping list.
