I'm currently listening to Joni Mitchell's "Both Sides Now"
Interested in buying more Joni. Where should i start, iguess joni mitchell for beginners.

She changes so much that it depends on what you like...

1968-1972: Folky (1971's "Blue" is often heralded as her masterpiece)

1974-1977: Folk, but gradually evolving into a sort of folk/pop/jazz fusion (1974's "Court and Spark" is probably THE album that earned her a commercial crossover appeal; but if I were trapped on an island with only one Joni CD, I'd arguably take 1976's "Hejira")

1979-1985: Experimental, ramblings with be-bop, '80s pop, even hip hop and very political lyrics (Great lyrics during this time, but probably her weakest period musically. With the exception of the occasional good song, this period sounds like a midlife crisis in the studio to me. 1979's "Mingus" is probably the most interesting and least embarrassing.)

1988 to present: Sort of an adult comtemporary amalgamation of all she's done. (The mature Joni. This is probably what she'll sound like for the rest of her career. Not particularly daring, but solid, consistent output from a seasoned artist and great lyrics as always. 1994's "Turbulent Indigo" took the Best Album grammy for that year!)

...In more recent years, Joni's sort of resigned to repeatedly putting out themed compilations of her catalog. I think this is pretty tired, but some of the symphonic versions of her work (particularly "Both Sides Now") are kind of interesting.

joni is soooo.... good , just start at the beginning and work your way through her back catalogue !!!
