yeah,it's amazing that these guys still continue to sell alot of records.Their music is bland and predictable. They obviously have a huge and extremely loyal fanbase.

He sells to the faux-hippie crowd that got into the Grateful Dead back in the late 1980's and early 1990's. Then after Jerry Garcia died, the fans had to jump on some other band's bandwagon, so many of them began following Dave Matthews while the others tagged onto Phish. I think a lot of these people are more into his concerts for atmosphere than music. That's not necessarily a knock on Dave Matthews and his band; their music can be quite good at times. It's more about the fans who treat his music as the background sounds to their backyard keg parties.

I'm not a big fan, but I can understand why their music sells. It's because they play real music. People like to hear real music rather than stuff filled with sex and violence or flashy videos. These guys play their instruments well and are a tight band. They don't shake their asses and sing about how many times they've been shot or how many women (at one time) they've bedded. Some people enjoy sophisticated music. Another example is Coldplay.

it's music for people who want something that matches the sofa. god bless him for making real music with a real band, but the stuff really leaves me wanting to take a nap. yawn

I have Before These Crowded Streets and listen to it from time to time. The best thing about it is the musicianship. Their drummer is incredible. But they do really attract a mostly white-hippie-college-beer chugging audience so if you are ever in the mood to be around thousands of them, go to one of his concerts and don't forget your tie-die!

Not I, that's for damn sure! I've wondered the same thing myself. This guy has been going strong for years. His music sucks yet he always goes platinum. How? I don't know one person who buy his music. I'm confused. confused

not my bag of tricks but i know a lot of people who like them. it seems like everyone on my campus is into dave matthews band. i've got no room to be a music snob (hey, i have spice girls and britney in my ipod) so i guess to each their own. not everybody looks for the meaning of life in the music they listen to...some people just want to enjoy themselves.

There are a few Dave Matthews band songs I like. Musically, I don't think they're bad as a band, especially when you got these sorry bands like My Chemical Romance and The Used (all of those bands that sound the same)sellin' like hotcakes. But yeah, I agree about the whole "college kids" thing. I'm guaranteed to see a DMB sticker on the back of someone's car while driving around campus. lol
