3 female artists? There are no male artists you would consider?

I don't know, but this is really sad. We are really reaching here. Maybe we can take some leftovers from the 70's and 80's so we can have a reasonable list?

we could add joey lawrence. He was a teenage icon.

Y'know i really had to try and remember the 90s. And the big musical impacts came from those 3 women. Is this a crime just because they own vaginas?
David, explain yourself

By "big musical impact", you're talking sales, though, right?

Well Shania certainly re-shaped country music and made it more cooler cool

Why are you guys adding the Spice Girls and The Backstreet Boys to your lists? You're supposed to pick solo artists lol

No,I was just thinking it would be better to "balance it out" a little bit. Here's my list...

Mariah Carey
Garth Brooks (I think he was the biggest-selling male artist of the 90s?)
Tupac (for the impact he had on hip-hop)

This album was bigger than any Ray of Light or Velvet Rope.
And it was really good.
Kudos to Shania

I dig this album. I think my mum has it somewhere? I love "still the one" anyway, is that on there? Funny as that song sounds just like starships "i didn't mean to stay all night". Which is one of my all time fav songs. Both were written by the same bloke-Robert John "mutt" lange. An amazing producer who produced for ac/dc and def leppard too. Aswell as billy ocean and michael bolton. So theres the connection. Robert married shania, the lucky asshole mad

Yeah "you're still the one" is on there.
Seriously, this album was the "Thriller" of the 90s IMO.

I used to have a bug crush on Shania, she is gorgeous love

But Mutt is the one pumping that gorgeous pussy night after night

Jeff Buckley
Kurt Cobain
Trent Reznor

I have to agree it has been a pretty dull decade, but maybe the 'Icon' ages are over. Maybe we're back in the 'van gogh' era, where true artists are hermits in the addic. personally I'd add Alan jackson...but I see why others might disagree.

But "My Heart Will go On" was the fucking anthem of the 90s along with Barbie Girl. Don't fuck with me Voices, i remember well that during class you held your heart while Celine was singing that lovely song.
It's a guilty pleasure of yours and you know it.

Why mariah carey? She is not an icon and has never had an impact like say shania had. But it is tough when its solo artists only. But really, mariah? Image wise she has no image. Icons need image I tell ya.

Mariah Carey was the biggest-selling female artist of the 90s,and she spent most of the decade at the top of the charts. That alone makes her an obvious choice.Aand she can sing! Her icon status is unquestionable.

Mutt is repulsive and Shania knows it. But it's a small price to pay for worldwide fame and recognition.
Same goes to Celine and Rene barf

Mutt can write good love songs and made shania. So love was born. As for rene? He must be worse then "mutt". lol

I had no idea "Mutt" wrote most her songs? Some producers just keep going.

Since you said that these have to be solo artists, here they are in this order:

1. 2Pac
2. Mariah Carey
3. Garth Brooks

Just missing the top three: Biggie Smalls, Alanis Morrisette, Celine Dion, Dr. Dre and R. Kelly.

While the artists I listed in the top three were the solo musical icons of the 1990's, this was really the era of groups like Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica, Boyz II Men, En Vogue, Soundgarden, Smashing Pumpkins, Wu-Tang Clan, Spice Girls, and later, the Backstreet Boys and N'Sync.

Mutt and Rene are both pushy stage fiances and they get married at the end for all their devotion.

Mutt writes the lyrics with Shania, but im sure he writes the melodies to all her songs
